  • Patent number: 5203080
Abstract: Modular protector apparatus for oil-filled submergible electric motors that drive submergible pumps comprises pluralities of components that are interconnected in different system permutations to form protectors appropriate for different applications. The components include heads, chambers, bases, and interconnecting bodies. The bodies have fluid passages that are adapted to communicate with other components and that are opened and closed selectively to provide desired inter-component flow paths. By virtue of the invention, a wide variety of protector apparatus may be manufactured economically.

  • Patent number: 4536137
Abstract: Submergible pumping apparatus for use in an oil or other well comprises, in a self-contained downhole unit, a double-acting reciprocating positive displacement pump for pumping well fluid, a reservoir containing power fluid for operating the double-acting pump, a rotary motor-driven positive displacement pump for supplying power fluid under pressure from the reservoir to operate the reciprocating pump, and a control valve for properly directing high pressure power fluid from the rotary pump to the reciprocating pump and from the reciprocating pump back to the reservoir so as to provide stroke reversal of the reciprocating pump.

  • Patent number: 4487299
Abstract: This disclosure pertains to protection apparatus for liquid-filled submergible equipment such as downhole electric motors used in oil wells and the like. The protection apparatus provides a positive bias force on the filling liquid so that any liquid leakage through motor seals and the like takes place from the inside out. The positive bias pressure is created by a piston having a substantially constant biasing pressure applied thereto by constant force springs. The piston operates in a cylinder which communicates at its head-end with the equipment being protected. The base-end of the cylinder communicates with a conventional labyrinth-type protector for maintaining an interface between the protecting liquid and well fluid externally of the cylinder.
