  • Patent number: 5499694
Abstract: A self-propelled passenger lift vehicle for transporting a mobility impaired passenger between a first location and first elevation and a second location and second elevation against an aircraft fuselage adjacent an aircraft door is disclosed. The vehicle comprises in combination a wheeled frame, a generally horizontal platform movably mounted on said frame having a leading edge portion and a support portion for supporting the passenger, a drive motor connected to at least one of the wheels for moving said vehicle from said first location to said second location, a brake mechanism connected to the at least one wheel for controllably stopping and preventing wheel rotation, and a position sensor in the leading edge portion of the platform for sensing the presence of the aircraft fuselage. The position sensor automatically actuates the brake to lock the drive wheel upon sensing contact with the aircraft fuselage. This feature minimizes damage to the aircraft due to operator error.

  • Patent number: 5149246
Abstract: A wheelchair lift apparatus for transporting a wheelchair and its occupant into and from a commercial vehicle can be installed in the existing doorway of the vehicle on a rotation column which is capable of supporting a telescoping platform assembly for movement into and out of an operative position across the doorway, there being a retention strap to prevent accidental forward rolling movement of the wheelchair as it is lifted or lowered, and a barrier plate across the front end of the forwardmost platform section cooperates with side flanges or rails on the platform section to prevent accidental movement of the wheelchair off of the platform assembly. The platform support unit is capable of lifting and lowering substantial loads without binding, and the platform assembly is hinged to the platform support unit in such a way as to require positive manual pressure in folding and unfolding the platform assembly with respect to the support unit.

  • Patent number: 4915505
Abstract: A truck-mounted apparatus is capable of blending liquid/liquid or liquid/solid constituents in a high capacity blending operation, and the apparatus achieves a high degree of versatility in the introduction of materials into a blender apparatus (10) for discharge from either or both sides of the truck or other vehicle. A closed loop system (12) permits suction of liquid materials as well as discharge of mixed materials from one or both sides of the truck, and is capable of flushing or other pumping operations as well. Moreover, the closed loop system (12) includes a pump (62) as a part of the closed loop system which, together with the blender (10), is operable off of a common drive, such as the power transmission train of the truck.

  • Patent number: 4460276
Abstract: A blending apparatus comprises a generally cylindrical casing bounded by top and bottom walls, the top wall having a central solids inlet for introduction of solids by gravity flow into an impeller mounted for rotation in the casing and in coaxial alignment with the solids inlet. The impeller has one or more spaced plates and impeller vanes mounted thereon which extend radially away from a central opening in the upper plate thereof, the central opening being aligned in open communication with the solids inlet and disposed in closely spaced relation to the top wall in such a way to prevent backflow of materials from the chamber formed in the casing through the upper solids inlet. Tangentially directed fluid inlet and outlet ports are disposed in the casing's cylindrical wall and the inlet port is disposed in outer radially spaced relation to the impeller preferably with the outlet port spaced below the inlet port and impeller for discharging intermixed materials from the chamber.

  • Patent number: 4422418
Abstract: An emergency air shutdown system for diesel engines which has air intake manifold and curved discharge tubes leading into the manifold for a plurality of cylinders, the system comprising a valve member for each discharge tube and pivotal mounting means therefor to cause movement of the valve member about an axis substantially parallel to the air flow through the discharge tube between an open position outside the path of air flow and a closed position across the tube to block the air flow. Locking means are provided for keeping the valve in an open position, and activating means are provided to effect release of the locking means so as to permit rapid movement to the closed position across each tube.

  • Patent number: 4239396
Abstract: A high capacity blender has been devised which is adaptable for use in achieving the proper blend of liquid-to-liquid or liquid-to-solid constituents making up a gel composition for use in fracturing oil and gas well formations in which a high speed impeller is mounted for rotation concentrically within an outer casing and has a solids inlet which is isolated from the liquid inlet. A series of liquid inlet apertures are disposed in outer concentric surrounding relation to the impeller, and impeller vanes within the impellers are operative to impart a centrifugal force to solids introduced therein whereby to direct the solids and materials radially and outwardly under considerable force into the liquid stream which is directed axially along the inner wall of a mixing chamber.
