    Abstract: A method and system for treating fly ash with a treating fluid by evenly dispersing a treating fluid into a flowing stream of fly ash. By dispersing the treating fluid into the fly ash as the fly ash is flowing, the method takes advantage of natural mixing and particle motion that occurs during flow of the bulk solid. The application of treating fluid is advantageously controlled by an automated controller that has inputs and outputs that allow the controller to adjust flow rate of the treating fluid in correspondence with a measured flow rate of the fly ash.

    Abstract: The present invention is an admixture for cementitious compositions that provides both good flowability and high early strength as is desired in the art. The admixture of the invention includes a superplasticizer comprising a water-soluble modified acrylic copolymer and at least one accelerant selected from the group consisting of salts of thiocyanic acid, water-soluble alkanolamines, ethylene oxide adducts of ethylenediamine, and morpholine derivatives. The combination of the superplasticizer and the accelerant used in the invention surprisingly has a synergistic effect on the early compressive strength of the cementitious composition and also enhances the W/CM ratio and the flowability of the cementitious composition.

    Abstract: A system for developing a concrete mix design that allows a user to input a set of initial design parameters (such as required average compressive strength) for the design, and to specify various design criteria (such as the cementitious materials, aggregates, and admixtures to be used in the design) using a series of input screens. The system then displays several key initial design parameters and design criteria within a design criteria and parameters summary that is displayed on a single “worksheet screen.” One or more of these criteria and/or parameters is displayed in user-modifiable format. Upon pressing a “calculate” button, the system displays an initial set of design specifications that meet the specified design parameters and criteria. The user may then modify any of the user-modifiable design parameters and criteria. In response such modifications, the system immediately generates an updated set of specifications that satisfies the revised criteria.

    Abstract: A valve assembly for selectively allowing either a partial or a complete draining of a toilet flush tank. A hollow valve member having both a small vent hole and a larger opening therein is selectively pivoted in a first or or a second direction depending upon which one of two activation levers is depressed. Opening the valve by pivoting it in one direction allows trapped air to vent from within the hollow valve. Inflowing water eventually imparts a negative buoyancy to the valve assembly and allows it to settle onto the valve seat to seal the tank prior to the discharge of the entire volume of water held by the flush tank. Alternatively, opening the valve by pivoting it in the opposite direction allows substantially less air to escape by virtue of the placement of the vent hole. The valve therefore never achieves negative buoyancy and the entire tank drains before the valve can settle onto its valve seat to seal the tank.
