  • Patent number: 7117423
Abstract: Methods and systems for streaming data in a network. Whether the network is experiencing high packet loss may be determined by a rate control module. If high packet loss is experienced, data is encoded into multiple streams by a coder using temporal domain partitioning. If high packet loss is not experienced, then data may is encoded by using frequency domain partitioning. Unequal error protection is applied to each of the streams so more important bit planes in a bit of a stream are provided with more error protection than less important bit planes. The streams are transmitted along, respectively, independent paths to a decoder. The streams are decoded, and errors in the decoded streams are corrected by using information from one or more of the other decoded streams. The decoded corrected streams are reconstructed into the data.

  • Patent number: 6898756
Abstract: A system and method for enabling efficient error correction and encryption using wavelet transforms over finite fields. The system and method utilizes the combination of a channel encoder and channel decoder to correct errors to source data after transmission over a physical channel or storage in a storage medium. The channel encoder mathematically generates a set of wavelet coefficients by performing a combination of filtering and/or processing of a received message vector. The wavelet coefficients are then utilized by the channel encoder to cause its filters to transform message data into transmission data. The channel decoder receives the transmitted source data in the form of a code word/channel error combination and performs filtering to render a syndrome, representative of the channel error. Analysis of the syndrome is performed to determine the actual error, which is utilized to derive the actual source data.

  • Patent number: 5444489
Abstract: A system compresses image blocks via successive hierarchical stages and motion encoders which employ caches updated by stack replacement algorithms. Initially, a background detector compares the present image block with a corresponding previously encoded image block and if similar, the background detector terminates the encoding procedure by setting a flag bit. Otherwise, the image block is decomposed into smaller present image subblocks. The smaller present image subblocks are each compared with a corresponding previously encoded image subblock of comparable size within the present image block. When a present image subblock is similar to a corresponding previously encoded image subblock, then the procedure is terminated by setting a flag bit.
