  • Publication number: 20240035377
Abstract: A downhole testing and sampling system includes a downhole tool, a conveyance system, and a testing and sampling tool forming a portion of the downhole tool. The testing and sampling tool including a first sampling modality and a second sampling modality. One or both of the first sampling modality or the second sampling modality may be deployed to collect a formation sample based, at least in part, on one or more formation properties.

  • Publication number: 20190234211
Abstract: A formation fluid sampling module including a body having an interior, a first probe including a first end arranged in the interior and a second end exposed at the outer surface, and a second probe including a first end section arranged in the interior and a second end exposed at the outer surface. The second end extends radially outwardly of and about the second end of the first probe. A pump is arranged in the interior. The pump includes a first pumping chamber including a first inlet fluidically connected to the first end, a second pumping chamber including a second inlet fluidically connected to the first end section and a piston operatively associated with each of the first pumping chamber and the second pumping chamber.

  • Patent number: 9068438
Abstract: Disclosed is a formation testing tool for extracting formation fluid from an earth formation penetrated by a borehole having a drilling fluid. The tool includes: a sample flow element configured to extract formation fluid from the formation in a sample zone; a sample zone seal forming a perimeter defining the sample zone; a contamination removal flow element configured to extract formation fluid contaminated with the drilling fluid from a contamination removal zone in the formation; a contamination removal zone seal forming a perimeter defining the contamination removal zone, which surrounds and excludes the sample zone; and a controller configured to control a sample flow rate in the sample flow element and a contamination removal flow rate in the contamination flow removal element in order to decrease an amount of time required to acquire a sample of the formation fluid having an acceptable amount of contamination.
