Abstract: In one exemplary embodiment, a system for providing data access between an information source and a mobile communication device includes a transcoding system and a first network device. The transcoding system includes a plurality of transcoders, and each transcoder is operable to transcode information content from a respective first content type into a respective second content type. The first network device is in communication with the transcoding system and includes a connection handler system. The connection handler system is operable to receive connection data for a connection between the information source and the mobile communication device and to select a corresponding connection handler. • Patent number: 7546956
Abstract: Systems and methods of application control for use on an electronic device. A device can be configured to receive an operation request from an application. The device can determine whether the requested operation is allowed to be performed by the application based upon a stored authorization record and an application identifier associated with the application. The application is allowed to perform the requested operation based upon whether the requested operation is determined to be allowed to be performed by the application.

  • Publication number: 20080099563
Abstract: A wireless device operates in an operating state determined as a function of the wireless device's physical physical speed. In some implementations, the wireless device determines the physical speed using a GPS (global positioning system). If the wireless device determines based on the physical position and/or physical speed that the user is driving an automobile in a region in which using a wireless device is not permitted while driving, then the wireless device automatically disables device features. However, if the user is actually a passenger, then the user may over-ride the automatic disabling of device features. In some implementations, the wireless device also informs other wireless users that communication is inappropriate or impossible. In some implementations, the wireless device also informs a communications node to process communications directed to the wireless device.

  • Patent number: 7251486
Abstract: A method relates to a network identification that uniquely identifies a communication device. The method includes determining a network address corresponding to the network identification. Another step is determining which device manager, of multiple device managers, is assigned the network address. Information and the network address is transmitted to the assigned device manager. The assigned device manager determines, from the network address, a device identification that identifies the wireless device within a communication device network. Using the device identification, the assigned device manager transmits the information to the device.

  • Patent number: 7251727
Abstract: Enhanced reset logic is included in a user's computerized device so that the device owner (e.g., the user's employer) can assure prompt reset (e.g., to insure device use of newly downloaded software versions or other control or security data) while still allowing user convenience (e.g., some limited continued normal use of the device before reset is forced upon the user thus permitting the user to avoid possibly aggravating losses of data and/or ongoing usage).

  • Patent number: 7120438
Abstract: A system for assigning a network address to a wireless device includes a network server, a virtual device manager, and an address resolution (AR) module. In one embodiment, the system is operable to push information from an information source within a computer network to the wireless device. In this embodiment, the network server is coupled to the computer network, and is operable to receive a network identification for the wireless device from the information source and return a network address associated with the wireless device to the information source. The virtual device manager is also coupled to the computer network, and may be accessed on the computer network using any of a plurality of network addresses, including the network address associated with the wireless device. The AR module is coupled to the virtual device manager, and is operable to receive the network address associated with the wireless device and determine an identification of the wireless device within a wireless network.

  • Publication number: 20040199665
Abstract: A system for pushing information content from an information source to a mobile communication device over a network includes a transcoding system and a first network device. The transcoding system includes a plurality of transcoders, each transcoder operable to transcode the information content from a respective input content type into a respective output content type. The first network device is in communication with the transcoding system, and includes a push module. The push module is operable to receive a connection request from the information source. The connection request includes an identifier associated with the mobile communication device. The push module is further operable to select a corresponding connection handler that is operable to select one or more transcoders from the plurality of transcoders to transcode the information content.

  • Publication number: 20040177270
Abstract: A system and method of multiple-level control of an electronic device are provided. Authorization information comprising data integrity and authentication information for each of a plurality of authorization levels is stored on an electronic device to be controlled. When controlled information associated with one of the plurality of authorization levels is received at the electronic device from a source, integrity of the received controlled information is checked and a determination as to whether the source is a party authorized at the one of the plurality of authorization levels is made, based on the data integrity and authentication information for the one of the plurality of authorization levels. The received controlled information is stored on the electronic device where the integrity of the received controlled information is verified and the source is a party authorized at the one of the plurality of authorization levels.

  • Patent number: 5666499
Abstract: A graphical user interface with clickaround tools for enhanced user interaction with an application program utilizing "two-handed" techniques. The "tool-handed" technique provides two displayed cursors controlled by two distinct pointing input devices. Actuation of a secondary input device, corresponding a secondary cursor, provides a tool palette or menu near a displayed primary cursor. This technique allows a user to select and activate tools to perform substantive operations on displayed objects of the application program. The interface allows the user to invoke tools in a fluent and seamless fashion, thus maintaining the user's focus on the substantive operations and not the procedural motions of tool access.
