  • Patent number: 4709445
Abstract: An apparatus for closing a door (14), the door closer assembly (10) preferably including a torsional spring unit (12) and a pneumatic check device (22). The torsional spring unit (12) can be attached to a door frame (16) through the use of a bracket (20) whereas the pneumatic check (22) can be attached to the door (14) through the use of a bracket (24). The amount of closing force generated by the torsional spring unit (12) can be adjusted by tensioning the torsional spring (26); locking the two housing components (34) and (46) together; repositioning the locked housing unit and the door (14); and releasing the housings (34) and (46) to "restore" the formerly stored closing force at a new door position.

  • Patent number: 4570985
Abstract: A locking bar (3) for use with a slideable panel (9), for example, sliding glass patio doors. The bar (3) includes first and second telescoping members (14 and 15) and a locking mechanism (16) at the point of attachment of the two members. The first member (14) is fixed against movement toward and away from the second member (15). The second member (15) is capable of telescoping movement relative to the first member (14). The locking bar further includes a bracket (19) for holding the second member (15) against movement relative to the slideable panel (9).

  • Patent number: 4438544
Abstract: The invention of the present application is a guard for limiting the opening of a door (10) with respect to the frame (12) in which it is mounted. The device includes first and second wire forms (14, 42), each having a looped extension portion (38, 46) formed in ends thereof. The looped extensions (38, 46) have apertures (40, 50) defined thereby, which apertures (40, 50) are significantly larger than dimensions of portions (36) of forms (14, 42) received within the apertures (40, 50). A compression spring (52) is disposed intermediate the looped extensions (38, 46) with coils (54, 54', 56) of the spring (52) encircling portions of the forms (14, 42) intermediate the extensions (38, 46).

  • Patent number: 4332407
Abstract: An automatically locking crossbolt deadlock (2). Deadlock (2) includes a vertically movable crossbolt (36) which may be moved between locked and unlocked positions. A lock button (200) is movable between a first position in which the lock button (200) positively holds crossbolt (36) in its locked position and a second position in which crossbolt (36) is free to move. A drive lever (43) is provided for moving crossbolt (36) between its locked and unlocked positions. Lock button (200) is moved from its first to its second position upon rotation of a handle (130) so that a panic exit may be accomplished without manually unlocking lock button (200). In addition, lock button (200) is movable to a third position for holding crossbolt (36) in its unlocked position to provide an anti-lock out feature. Rotatable handle (130) includes a lock cylinder (63) therein.

  • Patent number: 4063765
Abstract: A crossbolt deadlock having a crossbolt yieldingly urged toward a locking position relative to a cooperating strike. An actuator lever releasably holds the crossbolt in an unlocking position and has a portion engaging the strike, upon closing of the door on which the deadlock is mounted, to automatically release the crossbolt for movement into locking engagement with the strike. A spring yieldingly urges the actuator lever toward holding engagement with the crossbolt. A lock member is movable to positively lock the crossbolt selectively in locking or unlocking positions.

  • Patent number: 4061383
Abstract: An automatically locking crossbolt deadlock having a crossbolt yieldingly urged toward locking engagement with a cooperating strike when the deadlock and strike are mounted on a door and door frame respectively. An actuator lever releasably holds the crossbolt in a retracted or unlocking position while the door is open, and includes a portion which engages the strike, upon closing of the door, to cause the actuator lever to automatically release the crossbolt for movement into locking engagement with the strike. A cam and drive lever operate to move the crossbolt out of engagement with the strike to permit opening of the door, and a latch is engageable with the crossbolt, when the crossbolt is moved to its retracted position, to hold the same retracted until the door is opened and the actuating lever engages the crossbolt.
