  • Publication number: 20040054342
Abstract: Absorbent articles including an absorbent material that contains superabsorbent polymer non-adhesively attached to and restrained by a nonwoven. The material, used particularly in isolated portions of the absorbent articles of the invention, has a superabsorbent retention of at least 50% according to a stirbar retention test. Examples of such absorbent articles include pant-like garments with containment flaps and/or side panels made of the absorbent material. Other examples include swim wear garments containing the absorbent material.

  • Patent number: 6277106
Abstract: The present invention provides a diaper which includes an outer cover, a bodyside liner which is superposed on the outer cover and which includes a bodyfacing surface, an absorbent core which is located between the outer cover and the bodyside liner, and an adhesive. The adhesive is located on the bodyfacing surface of the bodyside liner. The adhesive is configured to at least temporarily secure the front portion of the diaper to a wearer's body to assist in positioning and fastening the diaper about the wearer's body. In a particular aspect, the adhesive is configured to provide a peel strength of no more than about 300 grams per centimeter of width and an initial shear strength of no more than about 600 grams per square centimeter.

  • Patent number: 6135988
Abstract: An absorbent article with an adhesive flap. The absorbent article has a crotch region, a rear waist region, and a body facing surface positionable adjacent a wearer when the article is in use. The absorbent article includes a backsheet, a liquid permeable topsheet attached to the backsheet, an absorbent structure disposed between said topsheet and said backsheet, and a flap positioned in the rear waist region of the article. The flap has first and second oppositely facing major surfaces wherein the first major surface faces the topsheet and the second major surface forms a portion of the body facing surface of the absorbent article. A substantial portion of the front edge of the flap is a free edge and an adhesive is disposed on the body facing major surface of the flap whereby the adhesive may engage the skin of the wearer when the absorbent article is in use.

  • Patent number: 6010972
Abstract: Disclosed is an adhesive that exhibits desired oil-resistance and processing properties. The adhesive is suitable for use in elastic composites and disposable absorbent products. In one embodiment, the adhesive exhibits the following properties: an Elastic Modulus value that is greater than about 4.times.10.sup.5 dynes per square centimeter at 40.degree. C. across the frequency range of about 0.1 to about 100 radians per second; an Elastic Modulus in Oil value that is greater than about 4.times.10.sup.5 dynes per square centimeter at 40.degree. C. across the frequency range of about 0.1 to about 100 radians per second; a Viscosity value of less than about 40,000 centipoise at a temperature of about 275.degree. F.; and a Viscosity value of greater than about 60,000 centipoise at a temperature of about 250.degree. F.
