    Abstract: A storage system includes storage units for securely retaining articles therein. The storage system includes an electronic user identification system to insure that the individual storing articles therein is the same individual removing the articles there from. The user identification system also compares the user identification information with database information to determine if the user is permitted to use the storage unit or not. The storage system provides such information to security personnel so that improper use of the storage system can be identified and appropriate action taken.
