  • Patent number: 4210739
Abstract: An internally plasticized vinyl chloride copolymer composition having good low temperature flexibility and tensile properties is disclosed. It consists essentially of from about 45% to about 80%, by weight, vinyl chloride, from about 15% to about 54%, by weight, of a C.sub.2 -C.sub.10 alkyl acrylate, and from about 1% to about 15%, by weight, of one or more C.sub.8 -C.sub.22 dialkyl maleate and/or fumarate. The copolymer is formed using conventional suspension, emulsion, bulk and solution polymerization procedures.

  • Patent number: 4097663
Abstract: An emulsion copolymer resin which contains from about 75% to about 90% by weight vinyl chloride, from about 5% to about 15% vinyl acetate and from about 5% to about 15% of a bis(hydrocarbyl)vinylphosphonate, has a fusion temperature of from about 200.degree. F. to about 300.degree. F. and has utility as a low fusion resin in the formation of cellular polyvinyl chloride products.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: January 29, 1976

    Assignee: Stauffer Chemical Company
Inventors: Ruth E. Gallagher, Jagadish C. Goswami
  • Patent number: 3988393
Abstract: Certain rigid plastics are reinforced by admixture with a plurality of rubber-containing interpolymer particles which are prepared by the suspension polymerization of vinyl chloride in the presence of an aqueous emulsion of particles comprising a crosslinked acrylic rubber having a Tg of less than about 25.degree. C. The resulting reinforced plastics display excellent physical properties.

  • Patent number: 3969431
Abstract: Rigid vinyl chloride polymers are reinforced by admixture with a plurality of elastomer-containing interpolymer particles which are prepared by the suspension polymerization of vinyl chloride in the presence of an aqueous emulsion of particles comprising a crosslinked butyl acrylate/2-ethylhexyl acrylate acrylic elastomer having a Tg of less than about 25.degree.C. The resulting reinforced vinyl chloride polymers display excellent physical properties.

Date of Patent: July 13, 1976
    Assignee: Stauffer Chemical Company
    Inventor: Ruth E. Gallagher
  • Patent number: 3944631
Abstract: An impact-resistant and weatherable thermoplastic composition comprising from about 10 to about 50 weight percent of a crosslinked acrylate elastomer having a Tg of less than 25.degree.C., from about 5 to about 35 weight percent of a crosslinked styrene-acrylonitrile copolymer and from about 15 to about 85 weight percent of a non-crosslinked or linear styrene-acrylonitrile copolymer. The composition is made by a three-step sequence comprising emulsion polymerizing of an alkyl acrylate containing at least one crosslinking monomer, emulsion polymerizing a monomer mixture of styrene, acrylonitrile and at least one crosslinking monomer in the presence of the crosslinked acrylate elastomer formed in the previous step, or a reverse sequence of the prior two emulsion polymerization procedures, and, finally, emulsion or suspension polymerizing of styrene, acrylonitrile in the presence of the previously formed product.
