Abstract: Methods and systems for a moveable search engine interface that remains visible on the desktop are provided. In one embodiment, a search engine interface is created by displaying a graphical image of a window on a screen of the computer. The window may receive search terms for searching information available to a search engine. The search engine interface is also created by associating a two dimensional graphical image that has a specified shape and color with the window. The search engine interface is designed to remain available on the screen of the computer regardless of whether a browser associated with the computer is open or closed. Further the search engine interface is designed to be moved anywhere on the screen.

Abstract: A method for selecting skinnable interfaces and a system for implementing the same. The method discloses accessing user specific information upon installation of an application on a computing resource. The computing resource is associated with a user that is associated with the user specific information. The method continues by associating the user with a selected selected skin from a plurality of user interface (UI) skins. The association between the user and the selected UI skin is based on the user specific information. Thereafter, the method continues by configuring the application to display the selected UI skin as a default UI skin for the application.

Abstract: An exemplary method for managing display resolution of a display from a distance is provided including: selecting a display resolution within a graphical user interface environment, where the graphical user interface environment is configured to be readable at a distance more than approximately two meters; selecting a native display setting in response to selecting the display resolution; and applying the native display setting to the display. In some embodiments, methods further include displaying a revert selection; and optionally selecting the revert selection such that the applying the native display setting is cancelled. In some embodiment selecting the native display setting includes: accessing a native display setting via a native API; requesting the native display setting via the native API corresponding to the selecting the display resolution; and receiving the native display setting.

Abstract: An exemplary method for handling a hidden dialog in a media centered graphical user environment is presented including: detecting the hidden dialog; determining whether the hidden dialog is an approved dialog; if the hidden dialog is an approved dialog, providing a notification to a user of the hidden dialog such that the media centered graphical user environment is interrupted; and if the hidden dialog is not an approved dialog, ignoring the hidden dialog such that the media centered graphical user environment is uninterrupted. In some embodiments, the hidden dialog originates from any WINDOWS™ compatible program. In some embodiments, the hidden dialog is a pop-up notification. In some embodiments, the approved dialog is user configurable. In some embodiments, the approved dialog may be: a programmatic subscription dialog, a programmatic update dialog, a programmatic alert dialog, and a system alert dialog.

The information is used to build at least one software button in at least one group of software buttons that allows launching of the pre-configured, pre-designated application.

Abstract: A method for adjusting images displayed on a television set, the television set being coupled to receive image information from an image-generating electronic device. The method includes displaying on the television set, using test image information from the image-generating electronic device, a test image. The method also includes receiving, from a human operator, user input. The method further includes employing the user input to form scaled test image information that corresponds to a scaled test image, the scaled test image representing a scaled version of the test image. The method yet also includes displaying on the television set, using the scaled test image information, the scaled test image on the television set in lieu of the test image.

The graphical user interface is divided into several modules, displayed on the display screen of the computer. Some of these modules are categories, which contain links to content online and on the hard drive of the computer. The user can customize these categories and the links within them to suit his or her personal needs, interests, and tastes. One of the modules within the GUI are media players. The user can select content by dragging and dropping a link from the desktop, another application, or a category within the GUI onto the media player. Applications required to access content referred to by links within the categories of the graphical user interface are launched at the time that the GUI is launched. The GUI also contains a search tool for searching content stored on the hard drive of the computer as well as accessing online search engines.

A plurality of applications for accessing electronic content can be launched concurrently with the launching of the graphical user interface player. An electronic content can be automatically opened in response to the dropping of a pointer to the electronic content onto the graphical user interface player.
