  • Patent number: 12780135
Abstract: A method for dynamically adjusting a sensing threshold of a vehicle contact sensor of a force management system of a vehicle includes detecting an object external to the vehicle via one or more vehicle environment sensors and then determining, based at least partially on data from the one or more vehicle environment sensors, a current path of the vehicle, a current trajectory of the object, and whether the current path of the vehicle and the current trajectory of the object intersect. The method assigns a categorization of predicted contact of the vehicle with the external object based at least partially on the data from the one or more vehicle environment sensors and adjusts, based on the categorization, a trigger threshold of the vehicle contact sensor at which an energy absorbing component is activated.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: November 25, 2024
Date of Patent: November 3, 2026
Assignee: GM Global Technology Operations LLC
Inventors: Tyler P. Morris, Emily F. Wolfangel, Ashraf Abualfellat, Ryan A. Gellner, Mohammadali Shahriari, Ke Dong
