Patent number: 9617719Abstract: Integrated air conditioning and water-harvesting systems are disclosed. In these systems, one subsystem (air conditioning or water-harvesting) may be a primary subsystem and the other subsystem may be a secondary subsystem. As load on the overall system increases to the point the cooling demands for both subsystems cannot be met simultaneously, the system automatically reduces output of the secondary subsystem. In certain embodiments, an atmospheric water-harvester may be connected into the (potentially pre-existing) chilled-water system that provides cooling throughout a building, either via distributed fan-coil units or a centralized air-handling unit. Additionally, providing cooled-air exhaust from an atmospheric water-harvester to a building's cooling system allows substantial quantities of water to be produced at nominal incremental operating cost over a simple, straightforward air conditioning system.Type: GrantFiled: February 12, 2016Date of Patent: April 11, 2017Assignee: Water Generating Systems I, LLCInventors: George A Sawyer, Ryan Larson

Publication number: 20160195312Abstract: A system that provides both air conditioning and atmospheric water-harvesting has a refrigerant compressor and a refrigerant condenser that serve separate evaporators for the air conditioning subsystem and the atmospheric water-harvesting subsystem. The system can be controlled to operate in one mode that maximizes water production output or another mode that maximizes efficiency in terms of water output per unit of electricity consumed. The ability to switch between maximized water production and maximized water-production efficiency can be implemented in a stand-alone, dedicated water-harvesting system as well.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 27, 2015Publication date: July 7, 2016Inventors: George A. Sawyer, Ryan Larson

Publication number: 20130019332Abstract: An automated relative maturity system for measuring the relative maturity of a large number of plots of diverse varieties of plants growing in a field or fields. A field to be evaluated is laid out in multiple plots with a specific variety assigned to a preselected plot or plots and with areas set aside throughout the field for planting of check varieties of known relative maturity. High-precision GPS is used with a planter to record the location of each plot within the field on a map. When leaf senescence is under way throughout the field, a radiometric crop sensor mounted on a vehicle also equipped with high-precision GPS is used to scan the plants in the plots to record readings of the plants synchronized to the GPS map locations, including the check plants of known relative maturity. Software is used to calculate the relative maturity of each variety.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 14, 2012Publication date: January 17, 2013Applicant: SYNGENTA PARTICIPATIONS AGInventors: Walter Stachon, Ken Luebbert, Keith Bilyeu, Joe Strottman, Ryan Larson

Patent number: 7980583Abstract: A method and apparatus for providing a gliding board binding, such as a snowboard binding. The binding may include an adjustment indicator that allows for determination of a longitudinal position of the base relative to a gliding board, heel-to-toe position of the base relative to a gliding board and/or an angular position of the base relative to a gliding board when the base is secured to the gliding board. The adjustment indicator may be included with a footbed that is removable from a binding base, e.g., that includes a foot engagement member to secure a rider's foot to the binding and board. A removable footbed may include a toe portion that is adjustable in position relative to a heel portion of the footbed. A gliding board may include a channel for mounting a binding that is arranged in the board core so that no portion of the board core is located on top or bottom sides of the channel, and instead so the top and bottom reinforcement layers are located above and below the channel.Type: GrantFiled: May 13, 2010Date of Patent: July 19, 2011Assignee: The Burton CorporationInventors: Kahlil Zaloom, Christopher C. Patent number: 7669880Abstract: A binding or boot strap is provided that allows a rider to easily, rapidly and/or effectively tighten and/or loosen the strap about his or her boot. The strap includes a boot-engaging strap portion that engages with an engagement strap coupleable to the boot, as may be the case with boots used for step-in bindings, or to the binding, as may be the case with strap-type bindings. An arrangement for facilitating tightening/loosening of the two strap pieces so that a rider can slip his or her foot into or out from the boot or fasten the boot to or loosen it from a snowboard binding is also provided. In one embodiment, this arrangement includes a tightening element, such as for example a cord, lace or strap, suitably coupled to one or both strap portions such that a rider can pull on the tightening element to move the strap pieces relative to each other and tighten the strap.Type: GrantFiled: August 29, 2005Date of Patent: March 2, 2010Assignee: The Burton CorporationInventors: Christopher Doyle, Ryan Larson, Gregory Dean, Florian Lang
