Abstract: A method of activating an application test mode on a mobile device is provided. The method includes receiving a message addressed to the mobile device. Upon receiving the message, and prior to sending the message to the mobile device, a determination is made as to whether the message contains a test-mode instruction for the mobile device to activate a test mode. When the message contains the test-mode instruction, then prior to sending the message to the mobile device, the message is modified to include destination information of a network component to which a confirmation message indicating the test mode is activated on the mobile device should be sent. The message is sent to the mobile device.

Abstract: A wireless communication system receives a registration request transferred by a first wireless communication device associated with a user account. The wireless communication system determines if registration data in the registration request is invalid. If the registration data is invalid, then the wireless communication system determines if a user profile in the first wireless communication device is out-of-date. If the user profile in the first wireless communication device is out-of-date, then the wireless communication system determines if a second wireless communication device is associated with the user account. If a second wireless communication device is associated with the user account, then the wireless communication system transfers an updated user profile for delivery to the second wireless communication device.

Abstract: A method, system, and medium are provided for receiving content that has features, which are supportable using capabilities of a computing device. On the computing device, an application is installed or removed. A determination is made as to whether the installation or removal changed an ability of the computing device to support content having certain features. The computing device provides to an interface an indication that describes an ability of the computing device to support content features. The indication is usable by the interface to facilitate an exchange of information between the computing device and a content server.

Abstract: The invention is directed to a physical overlay that can be secured to a mobile device and that covers at least a portion of the mobile device's user interface. The overlay includes a front portion that has input areas, which may be openings or physical keys. The mobile device detects or is told that the overlay is installed, and the mobile device receives configuration data associated with the overly that tells the mobile device the locations of the input areas on the overlay so that the user interface can be adjusted accordingly. The overlay also includes side portions that allow the overlay to be secured to the mobile device.

Abstract: A profile audit system in a wireless network comprises a communication interface and a processing system. The communication interface is configured to receive a notification of a failed attempt by a first wireless communication device operated by a user to register with the wireless network using invalid registration data, and receive a user profile associated with the user. The processing system is configured to process the user profile and the invalid registration data to determine if a credential error has occurred, and if the credential error has occurred, process the user profile to determine if a second wireless communication device is associated with the user, and if the second wireless communication device is associated with the user, direct the communication interface to transfer an updated user profile for wireless delivery to the second wireless communication device, wherein the updated user profile includes valid registration data.

Abstract: A mobile communications device, method, and medium are provided for capturing and handling a wide range of communication events. A registrar populates a push registry with information corresponding to an event handler. The registrar associates the event handler with a trigger event and stores the association in the push registry. An event receiver identifies an occurrence of the trigger event and calls an application management system (AMS) so that the AMS can initiate the event handler. Event filters, which can include user-definable filters, are applied to communication events according to filter definitions associated with the event handler.

Abstract: A method for managing the application mode on a mobile device is provided. Messages containing instructions to change the application mode of a mobile device may be inspected to ensure the message conforms to security policies. The message may be modified to request a confirmation that the application mode has been changed according the instructions in the message. The delivery of the message may be ensured by overriding normal message delivery polices by repeatedly notifying the mobile device that the message is ready for download. The mobile device may update the application mode according to the instructions and send a confirmation message to a designated address.

Abstract: Ways of allocating an identifier to a mobile device are disclosed. One method includes receiving a request that requests an address be assigned to the mobile device, considering factors in connection with determining a mobile IP (MIP) address to be assigned to the mobile device, determining the MIP address based on the factors, and conveying the MIP address to the mobile device.

Abstract: A method for managing and tracking a permission status for an application on a mobile device is provided. The privacy policy on a mobile device may require users to grant permission for an application to access certain capabilities (e.g., GPS, personal information manager) on the mobile device. The user may be presented an interface on the mobile device that allows the user to grant an application permission to access the capability. When the user grants an application permission to access a capability a message is sent to a remote privacy manager that tracks the permission status of applications on the mobile device. The user may view the permission status of each application through the Internet. The user may also use the privacy manager to remotely change the permissions on the mobile device.

Abstract: Computer media, systems, and computer-implemented methods for enhancing SMS messaging sessions with user data are provided. A data sharing agreement between a service provider and a receiving entity, such as broadcaster or a consumer goods manufacturer, is established. A user with a wireless device sends an SMS message to the receiving entity. Data associated with the user is retrieved by the service provider in accordance with the data sharing agreement and is transmitted to the receiving entity along with the SMS message.

Abstract: Media, methods and interfaces are provided for interfacing a mobile device and an application virtual machine to provide location information of the mobile device from a secondary source. When location information supplied by a first source to the application virtual machine contains invalid values for device location, a secondary source is utilized to provide the location information. No new processing thread is spawned for collection of back-up source configurations. Thus, interfaces initiate the first and second location determination methods in a single request. The power consumed by the mobile device to retrieve the device location information from a secondary source is reduced by the absence of additional configuration collection threads. Interfaces include a primary location component, a verification component, a backup location component, and a location update component.

Abstract: A base station identification system comprises a processing system and a memory device. The processing system is configured to initiate a modulo count to indicate mobility of the wireless communication device, determine a last base station identifier for a last base station serving the wireless communication device, compare the last base station identifier to a set of previous base station identifiers for previous base stations serving the wireless communication device, if the last base station identifier is in the set of previous base station identifiers, assign a previous modulo number in the modulo count to the last base station identifier, and if the last base station identifier is not in the set of previous base station identifiers, assign a next modulo number in the modulo count to the last base station identifier, and add the last base station identifier to the set of previous base station identifiers.

Abstract: A method and medium are provided for identifying a client application residing on a mobile communications device. The mobile device detects installation of a new client application, and provides information about the client to an application registration catalogue (ARC) on the mobile network. The ARC returns an application identifier corresponding to the client, which the mobile device inserts into access request headers sent by the client over the mobile network. By also including a request to update the identifier with a custom client identity agreed upon by a content provider or developer, mobile networks provide a trusted method of forwarding access requests to content providers.

Abstract: A method and medium are provided for automatically updating user profiles based on authentication failures associated with network-access requests from mobile communications devices. A mobile communications device requests access to a mobile network and the access is rejected due to an authentication failure. Upon communicating a rejection message to the mobile communications device, the authentication server communicates a network-access rejection notification to a user-profile updating server that resets network-generated authentication credentials and provides updated profiles containing reset credentials to a provisioning server. Subsequent access requests from the mobile device are handled through a dedicated profile-provisioning home agent until the device is updated, at which time network access can be granted through a more conventional home agent.

Abstract: Media and system are provided for monitoring and adjusting timeout parameters in devices to prevent or reduce timeout scenarios for the devices. A dynamic timeout management server (DTMS) monitors wait times and behaviors of devices to implement an optimum timeout parameter that will prevent the occurrence of a timeout. When timeouts occur for a particular device, the DTMS changes the amount of time in the timeout parameter and communicates this new timeout parameter to relevant devices to prevent a timeout. The timeout parameter or new timeout parameter is stored in a global centralized timeout database as well as a local or regional timeout database.

Abstract: The present invention provides methods for associating a gesture, in contact with a touch screen, with a character. More specifically, the present invention links a user's movement on a surface of a device to represent a character. A character includes any number, letter, or symbol. For example, an illustrative embodiment of the present invention, a user may swipe a surface on their device such as a cell phone. The present invention recognizes the swipe to represent the number “0,” a swipe in another direction to represent the number “1,” a tap in the middle region to represent the number “2,” etc.
