  • Publication number: 20240059368
Abstract: A control system for an electric vehicle includes a first control device adapted to output a first signal indicative of a torque demand from an electric motor of the vehicle; a second control device adapted to output a second signal indicative of a negative torque demand from the electric motor; and a controller adapted to receive the first signal and the second signal and to control the electric motor in accordance with the first and second signals. The controller is adapted to control the electric motor to propel the vehicle in response to the torque demand indicated by the first signal exceeding the negative torque demand indicated by the second signal and to control the electric motor to regeneratively brake the vehicle in response to the negative torque demand indicated by the second signal exceeding the torque demand indicated by the first signal.

  • Publication number: 20230198334
Abstract: A liquid cooled motor enclosure includes a fluid tight space adapted to contain a coolant fluid. A motor is arranged inside the enclosure and is thermally coupled to the inner side of the enclosure. An inlet manifold is located at one axial end of the enclosure, and an outlet manifold is located at the opposite axial end of the enclosure. The cross-sectional areas of the inlet and outlet manifolds are sized and configured to provide for substantially uniform flow of coolant around the entire circumference of the enclosure and/or so that coolant flowing in the space from the inlet manifold toward the outlet manifold is substantially axial. A plurality of projections extend into the space to increase the surface area in contact with the coolant fluid and increase turbulence in the coolant fluid flowing in the space to increase heat transfer from the motor to the inner shell and from the inner shell to the coolant fluid.

  • Patent number: 9812981
Abstract: One or more variable configuration controller (VCC) systems may produce various combinations of series or parallel couplings of coils, winding or inductive elements of an electric machine such as a generator and/or electric motor. The VCC systems include a plurality of bridge rectifiers, and a first number of switches operated to selectively couple respective pairs of coils in series from parallel on an AC side of the bridge rectifiers. The bridge rectifiers provide for automatic electrical isolation of coils on occurrence of open circuit, low voltage or short circuit conditions. A second number of switches with different performance characteristics (e.g., speed, loss) than the first number of switches may be coupled in parallel with respective ones of the first number of switches. Power factor correction may be used.
