  • Publication number: 20060289014
Abstract: Systems and methods place a magnetic structure in or on a single tissue mass in an airway. A first magnetic region on a given structure magnetically interacts with a second magnetic region on the structure to shape the structure within the single tissue mass and thereby stabilize a desired orientation for the single tissue mass. The first magnetic region can magnetically interact with the second magnetic region, e.g., by generating magnetic attracting forces.

  • Publication number: 20060289015
Abstract: Magnetic structures develop a magnetic force between a tongue and a posterior pharyngeal wall to stabilize an orientation of the tongue. The magnetic structures include magnetic materials that are sized, configured, and arranged on at least one of the first and second magnetic structures, to maintain a substantially mutually repelling orientation between the first and second magnetic structures during a native range of movement of the tongue relative to the pharyngeal wall, i.e., during swallowing and/or drinking/and or speech.

  • Patent number: 7153307
Abstract: Systems and methods for delivering material into bone deploy a cannula through soft tissue to establish a subcutaneous path into bone. A material is introduced into bone through the cannula. The systems and methods advance a tamping instrument through the cannula to urge material residing in the cannula into bone. The introducing step delivers material at a pressure no greater than about 360 psi.

  • Publication number: 20050228397
Abstract: A method and apparatus for filling a cavity in a patient's body with a material are provided. The apparatus can include a flexible tube, a barrel and a plunger. The flexible tube has a first end, a second end, and a lumen extending from the first end to the second end and operable to hold a material for conveyance through the first end into a cavity. The barrel is in fluid communication with the second end of the flexible tube and includes a lumen configured to receive material for delivery into the flexible tube. The plunger is configured to advance material through the lumen in the barrel and into the flexible tube. In one implememtation, there is substantially a one to one ratio of advancement of the plunger to a volume of material advanced from the rigid first end of the flexible tube.

  • Publication number: 20050038312
Abstract: Methods and apparatus are provided for loading therapeutic materials into brachytherapy needles. The apparatus comprises an apparatus with chambers, and radioactive seed and spacer cartridges received therein. The apparatus may be used in conjunction with a standard brachytherapy needle coupled to the distal end of the apparatus. The plunger dislodges seeds and spacers from the cartridge chambers to load the needle with a predetermined packing arrangement.
