  • Publication number: 20180056832
Abstract: The technology described in this document can be embodied in a system that includes a seat headrest enclosing at least one first acoustic transducer that generates audio output in a first frequency range. The system also includes an adjustable headrest wing disposed in front of the seat headrest, the headrest wing being pivotally coupled to the seat headrest and adjustable to one of multiple positions. The headrest wing includes at least one second acoustic transducer that generates audio output in a second frequency range that includes frequencies higher than the upper end of the first frequency range. The system further includes a controller configured to adjust, for a given position of the headrest wing, one or more parameters of at least one of: (i) the first acoustic transducer and (ii) the second acoustic transducer in accordance with a target acoustic distribution.

  • Publication number: 20180054670
Abstract: An earphone includes an electro-acoustic transducer and an earphone assembly. The electro-acoustic transducer is configured to generate an acoustic signal in response to an electrical signal. The earphone assembly has an inner surface and an earphone acoustic opening. The electro-acoustic transducer is disposed inside the earphone assembly and defines a front cavity between the electro-acoustic transducer and the earphone acoustic opening along a first portion of the inner surface and a back cavity between the electro-acoustic transducer and a second portion of the inner surface. The earphone assembly further includes an acoustic impedance branch having an impedance aperture in acoustic communication with the front cavity. The acoustic impedance branch includes an acoustic resistive element and a branch volume that reduce a resonance at a first resonance frequency for an occluded ear canal defined by the front cavity of the earphone assembly and an ear canal of a user.

  • Publication number: 20170251287
Abstract: A vehicle headrest includes a main body portion having a front surface arranged to support a back of a head of a user. The main body portion includes first and second speakers which are disposed within the main body portion, and a cushion layer that is configured to surround the speakers and provide cushioning for a user's head. The cushion layer includes acoustic channels for controlling a radiation pattern of acoustic energy radiated from the speakers.

  • Publication number: 20170193977
Abstract: A method and system for a noise cancellation comprises an amplifier in communication with the three or more speakers disposed in an area. A system controller produces a driver signal for each of the speakers in response to a signal from at least one microphone detecting sound in the area and communicates the driver signals to the amplifier. The amplifier drives each speaker with the driver signal produced for that speaker. In response to the driver signals, the speakers emit sound that combined produces a substantially uniform sound pressure field for a particular zone within the area. The substantially uniform sound pressure field produced by the speakers has a magnitude and phase adapted to attenuate a noise field in the area corresponding to the sound detected by the at least one microphone.

  • Publication number: 20160379620
Abstract: A method and system for attenuating noise comprises identifying a location in an area at which sound emitted from one or more speakers has acoustic characteristics that are substantially similar in measure to corresponding acoustic characteristics of the emitted sound at a location approximated to be near an ear of an occupant of the area. A microphone, which may be a virtual microphone, is disposed at the identified location. The microphone detects sound at the identified location. In response to the sound detected by the microphone, the one or more speakers emit a noise-canceling audio signal adapted to attenuate one or more frequencies in the sound detected by the microphone.
