  • Patent number: 10914662
Abstract: A method for analyzing material wear in a hydrocarbon production environment is disclosed. The method includes the steps of preparing a sample of material to be disposed proximate the hydrocarbon production environment; selecting a placement location for the sample of material, wherein the placement location is in fluid communication with a fluid flow for which the impact of the fluid flow on the sample of material is to be tested; disposing the sample of material in the placement location for a pre-determined amount of time; allowing the sample of material to be exposed to the fluid flow; retrieving the sample of material from the placement location after the pre-determined amount of time has passed; and analyzing the sample of material for wear caused by the hydrocarbon production environment.

  • Patent number: 10156113
Abstract: A subsea blowout preventer (BOP) hydraulic control system to reduce water hammer that includes a hydraulic fluid source. The system further includes a fluid supply conduit in fluid communication with the hydraulic fluid source at an upstream end, and with a BOP function at a downstream end. The system further includes a supply valve in the fluid supply conduit that controls the amount of fluid flow through the fluid supply conduit to the BOP function, the supply valve having an open state and a closed state. The supply valve has a choke that controls movement of the supply valve between the open state and the closed state and vice versa so that such movement is retarded when the supply valve state approaches the fully open or the fully closed state to reduce pressure spikes in the fluid of the fluid supply conduit.

  • Patent number: 9863549
Abstract: Apparatuses for providing a visual indication outside a blowout preventer (BOP) relative to a position of ram blocks inside the BOP, and methods of adding such apparatuses to existing blowout preventers are provided. An apparatus has an indicator rod, a detectable portion and a sealing assembly. The indicator rod has an end extending outside an end cap of the BOP, and is configured to engage with a tail rod of a ram block of the BOP, and to switch between a first position when the BOP is in a close state, and a second position when the BOP is in an open state. The detectable portion is located outside the end cap and is configured to provide a visual indication relative to a current position of the indicator rod. The sealing assembly is configured to seal a space inside the end cap from an environment in which the BOP operates.

  • Publication number: 20150101674
Abstract: A pressure regulator having an outlet port, an inlet port, and a vent port, and a regulator piston having an internal passage in constant fluid communication with the outlet port. The regulator piston has a first position where the passage is in fluid communication with the inlet port and not the vent port, a second position where the passage is not in fluid communication with either the inlet port or the vent port, and a third position where the passage is in fluid communication with the vent port and not the inlet port. The pressure regulator also has a spring piston in mechanical communication with the regulator piston that is biased to exert a force on the regulator piston sufficient to move the regulator piston between the first, second, and third positions. The spring piston is enclosed in a spring housing with an internal area maintained at about atmospheric pressure.
