Patent number: 9943327Abstract: Surgical tool are disclosed that include a first tip and a second tip. The first tip and the second tip can have a first configuration, an intermediate configuration, and a second configuration. In the first configuration the tool operates as forceps and in the second configuration the tool operates as scissors. In the intermediate configuration the tool operates as a probe. The tips can be brought together to transition between the first configuration and the intermediate configuration. The tips can be rotated to transition between the intermediate configuration and the second configuration. Method are disclosed that include the step of providing a tool having a first tip extending distally and a second tip extending distally, moving at least one of the first tip and the second tip toward the other of the first tip and the second tip, and rotating the first tip and the second tip.Type: GrantFiled: June 20, 2017Date of Patent: April 17, 2018Assignee: Divyze, Inc.Inventor: Ryan D. Smith

Publication number: 20170128125Abstract: Surgical tools are disclosed that include a first handle having a first recess, a second handle having a second recess, a first tip disposed in the first recess and extending distally, and a second tip disposed in the second recess and extending distally. The first tip has a first external surface and a first internal surface. The second tip has a second external surface and a second internal surface. The surgical tool has a first configuration wherein the surgical tool operates as forceps. The surgical tool has a second configuration wherein the surgical tool operates as scissors. The first internal surface can be moved adjacent to the second internal surface to permit rotation of the first tip relative to the first recess and permit rotation of the second tip relative to the second recess. The rotation of the first tip and the second tip transitions the surgical tool between the first configuration and the second configuration.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 11, 2016Publication date: May 11, 2017Inventor: Ryan D. Patent number: 9393066Abstract: Surgical tools and methods are disclosed. The surgical tool has a first configuration wherein the first tip and the second tip operate as forceps. The surgical tool has a second configuration wherein the first tip and the second tip operate as scissors, wherein rotating the first tip and the second tip about a longitudinal axis of the surgical tool transitions the surgical tool between the first configuration and second configuration. A method of using a surgical tool is disclosed that includes providing a surgical tool having a first tip and a second tip, wherein the first and second tips are configured for use as forceps. The method includes rotating the first tip relative to a longitudinal axis of the surgical tool and the second tip relative to the longitudinal axis of the surgical tool, wherein the rotation reconfigures the first and second tips for use as scissors.Type: GrantFiled: May 26, 2015Date of Patent: July 19, 2016Inventor: Ryan D. Patent number: 7551821Abstract: A fiberscope device is disclosed which is suitable for video imaging, laser Raman spectroscopy and laser Raman spectroscopic (i.e. chemical) imaging. The fiberscope design minimizes fiber background interference arising from the laser delivery fiber optic and the coherent fiber optic light gathering bundle while maintaining high light throughput efficiency through the use of integrated spectral filters. In the fiberscope design, the laser delivery fiber optic is offset from the coherent fiber optic light gathering bundle. The laser delivery field is captured entirely by the light gathering field of view of the coherent fiber bundle. The fiberscope incorporates spectral filter optical elements that provide environmental insensitivity, particularly to temperature and moisture.Type: GrantFiled: May 4, 2007Date of Patent: June 23, 2009Assignee: ChemImage CorporationInventors: Patrick J. Treado, Matthew P. Nelson, Scott A. Keitzer, Ryan D. Smith
