    Abstract: An apparatus for holding an umbrella includes a longitudinal shaft with a lower and an upper end. The lower end is adapted for insertion into the ground. A pivoting lever is used to urge the lower end into the ground by stepping on it. The upper end is adapted to receive and retain a lower end of the umbrella. An intermediate support is provided between the upper and lower ends and is used to steady the apparatus, for example, in the wind.
