  • Publication number: 20080257363
Abstract: An orthopedic implant manufacturing method. The method includes preparing a preliminary pre-operative surgical plan for a specific patient, communicating the plan to a surgeon of the patient, and receiving an orthopedic implant design recommendation of the surgeon. The implant design recommendation can include selecting one of first, second or third options, the first option being a patient-specific implant, the second option being a semi-custom implant, and the third option being an off-the-shelf implant. The method further includes sending a request for manufacturing the selected implant to a manufacturing center, receiving the implant, and forwarding the implant for implantation.

  • Patent number: 6827722
Abstract: Disclosed is a driven surgical driver for wire guide surgical components. The driver has a rotatable drive shaft which is configured to apply driving and rotational forces to a medical device. A wire clamp is provided which is configured to hold the guide wire at a fixed distance from the tissue while the medical device is being driven distally away from the wire clamp. A process provides for grasping a point on the guide wire at a fixed distance from the tissue with the wire clamp. This grasping point on the guide wire is maintained at the fixed distance from the tissue while a force is applied to the driver to affix the medical device relative to the tissue.

  • Patent number: 6709433
Abstract: An external bridging/non-bridging bone fixation device including at least a first member and a second member. The first member is implanted substantially permanently on an arm bone during an entire healing process. Whereas the second member is adapted to be substantially temporarily implanted and affixed between the first member and a metacarpal of the associated hand. The second member may be a singular rigid piece or may be formed of several modular pieces affixed together. In particular, the second member may be hinged to allow for an offset or angled implantation. Also, the second member may include a plurality of pieces that are rigidly held together after implantation to allow for high selectivity by a physician. The bridging/non-bridging bone fixation device allows for a bridging adaptation during an initial portion of healing and a non-bridging adaptation during the extended healing process to reduce the possibility of stiffness and plaques due to prolonged periods of immobility.

  • Patent number: 6338734
Abstract: An implant for use in fixing an resected portion of a bone to a proximal portion of the bone. The implant includes an anatomically shaped plate member having a generally straight first portion and a second portion. The first portion has a bone receiving groove on its inner side and at least one lower wire receiving groove on its exterior side. The bone receiving groove is adapted to receive a generally straight portion of the proximal portion of the bone. The second portion is coupled to the first portion at a first end and terminates at a distal end in at least one inwardly directed hook-shaped member. The second portion is curved to generally match the contour of an end portion of the bone. The hook-shaped member is adapted to abut the resected portion of the bone to prevent the resected portion from migrating from the straight portion of the proximal portion of the bone. A method for fixing an resected greater trochanter to a proximal femur is also provided.
