Patent number: 9787225Abstract: A device includes a housing configured with a working element and a motor configured for urging motion of the working element. The device further includes a power control module. The power control module is configurable for being in electrical connection with at least one of the motor, a first power source configuration and a second power source configuration. The first power source configuration is configurable for being electrically connected to a battery assembly having a DC power output. The second power source configuration is configurable for being electrically connected to a power inverter, the power inverter configured for receiving an AC power and further configured for outputting a DC power to the second power source configuration. The power control module includes an automatic power selection configuration for automatically selecting the second power source configuration when the second power source configuration receives DC power from the power inverter.Type: GrantFiled: May 20, 2014Date of Patent: October 10, 2017Assignee: MTD Products IncInventors: Delbert E. Patent number: 7728534Abstract: A hybrid electric lawnmower is described which includes a first and a second electric motor operating blades and the ability to drive the motors from either 120 VAC line voltage or from a battery pack. There is a user selectable power selection switch for switching between DC or AC power and also a boost and conserve feature which allows for increased speed of the blade as necessary. Running the mower at the conserve setting prolongs battery pack duration per charge. Power supply and control systems allow the user to select operation of the motors in either series or parallel configuration depending on the power source.Type: GrantFiled: February 2, 2007Date of Patent: June 1, 2010Assignee: MTD Products IncInventors: Delbert E. Lucas, Justin Lucas, Ryan Jay Lucas

Patent number: 7482768Abstract: A hybrid electric lawnmower having dual power supply is described which includes an electric motor operating the blade and the ability to drive the motor from either 120 VAC line voltage or from a battery pack. There is a user selectable power selection switch for switching between DC or AC power in order to run the motor on either line voltage or based upon the charge of the battery pack.Type: GrantFiled: October 18, 2006Date of Patent: January 27, 2009Assignee: Desa IP, LLCInventors: Delbert E. Publication number: 20080120955Abstract: A hybrid electric lawnmower is described which includes a hybrid mower able to operate on two differing DC voltages. The mower presently described includes a hybrid controller operable to drive a permanent magnet electric motor on a high voltage and a low voltage wherein the operating may select either DC or AC operation representing the low voltage or high voltage. The dual voltage motor has separate windings on the rotor, both of the windings operable to drive the motor whether selected to operate on DC or on AC. The user operable selection of AC or DC reconfigures the dual windings on the rotor in either series or parallel configuration wherein low voltage operation places the windings in parallel relationship and high voltage operation places the windings in series relationship.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 5, 2007Publication date: May 29, 2008Inventors: Delbert R.
