  • Publication number: 20230347557
Abstract: A method of forming a polymeric vacuum insulation board is provided, the polymeric vacuum insulation board including a plurality of evacuated, closed-cell pores therein. In one embodiment, the method includes intermixing a polymer with zeolite particles that contain water and extruding the resulting composition under high pressure. During extrusion, water in the zeolite particles evaporates and creates a porous, closed-cell microstructure within a polymer matrix. As the polymer matrix cools and solidifies, water vapor is reabsorbed by the zeolite, which at least partially evacuates the closed-cell pores. In another embodiment, the method includes intermixing a polymer with expandable graphite particles and extruding the resulting composition under high pressure. During extrusion, the expandable graphite particles define evacuated voids. The polymer binder can be selected to include low gas permeance, for example ethylene vinyl alcohol (EvOH) or polyvinylidene chloride (PVDC).

  • Patent number: 11090726
Abstract: An apparatus and device for building an article by additive manufacturing or 3-D printing. The method includes feeding a supply of particulate slurry to and through a nozzle, such as including an integrated pump, to form a plurality of beads and layers of the slurry on a deposition surface, and ultimately forming a desirable article from the layers of deposited material. The liquid phase of the slurry is desirably removed by heat, and the deposited layers can be sintered or otherwise fused as needed.

  • Publication number: 20190316815
Abstract: A refrigeration apparatus includes a refrigeration enclosure comprising outer walls defining a hermetic interior refrigeration chamber, and a porous thermally conductive foam insert within the chamber. A desiccant enclosure includes outer walls defining a hermetic interior desiccant chamber, and a desiccant within the desiccant chamber. A fluid conduit establishes a fluid connection between the refrigeration chamber and the desiccant chamber. A control valve controls the flow of a fluid through the fluid conduit. The refrigeration enclosure and an article to be refrigerated can be placed within an outer thermally insulated cooler. A method of refrigerating an article and a human-powered refrigeration system are also disclosed.
