  • Patent number: 10596033
Abstract: A surgical instrument and method, for example to accomplish phacoemulsification, are disclosed. The surgical instrument includes a handpiece that includes a piezoelectric transducer. A hollow titanium needle having a substantially cylindrical portion and a free distal tip is attached to the handpiece by way of a threaded supported end structure. The piezoelectric transducer is driven by a circuit to periodically expand and contract at a high-ultrasound frequency that rings the hollow titanium needle with a high-ultrasonic frequency standing wave having a node of minimum amplitude residing in the substantially cylindrical portion between the supported end structure and the free distal tip, and to periodically expand and contract at an ultrasound frequency that rings the hollow titanium needle with an ultrasonic frequency standing wave, the circuit adapted to between the high-ultrasonic frequency and the ultrasonic frequency.

  • Publication number: 20170209679
Abstract: An applicator 270 includes a stem 174 having an axially-formed slot delivery passage 200. A slot 350 is formed transaxially through the stem 174 and is in communication with the slot delivery passage 200. An extended side wall 350b is formed on one side of the slot 350. A flat surface 354, which is formed in the stem 174, is spaced and extends angularly away from an opposite side of the slot 176 and from the extended side wall 350b to provide for direct and lateral dispensing of a cream 280 onto a tissue 242 of a patient.

  • Patent number: 9216105
Abstract: A recto-cystocele device to address rectocele and cystocele disorder is described. The device generally comprise a handle and a paddle that are distinguished from one another by a bend in the recto-cystocele device which forms essentially an L-shaped unit, the bend possessing a sufficient radius to avoid contact with a pelvic region of the woman and the recto-cystocele device. The device further comprises an expandable sheath located on the paddle that after being inserted in a vagina of the woman and is expanded therein is in contact with at least an upper portion of the vagina that includes a posterior fornix of the vagina and a lower portion of the vagina that does not include the posterior fornix. The handle, which does not go into the vagina, is adapted to be manually manipulated by the woman to translate directional pressure against the posterior fornix and the lower portion of the vagina via the expandable sheath when expanded.

A trough-like cleft 306 can be formed in the external surface 195 of a solid portion of the stem 174, distally of the slot 176, to provide an axially-extended path for the cream being dispensed through the slot.

  • Patent number: 9072582
Abstract: A stool evacuate assist device to address rectocele disorder is described. The device generally comprises a handle and a paddle wherein the handle and the paddle are delineated by a bend in the device. The stool evacuation device further has an expandable sheath located on the paddle that after being inserted in a vagina of a woman and after being expanded in the vagina, the expandable sheath is in contact with a rectovaginal wall of the vagina. The handle is adapted to translate directional pressure on the rectovaginal wall via the expandable sheath when manipulated by the woman. The bend between the handle and the paddle essentially remains outside of the vagina when the expandable sheath is expanded in the vagina.

  • Publication number: 20150038894
Abstract: Described is a phacoemulsification device for eye surgery that generally comprises an ultrasonically vibrating aspiration needle that withdraws ocular material from inside of the eye. The ocular material withdrawn from the eye is equally replaced with irrigation fluid provided through irrigation ports in an irrigation sleeve surrounding the aspiration needle. In the event the aspiration needle stops withdrawing ocular material, such as if it becomes occluded with a chunk of ocular material, irrigation fluid is directed to the outside of the eye via at least one irrigation aperture to keep the eye cool where the needle is ultrasonically vibrating.

  • Publication number: 20140074051
Abstract: Applicators 470,472, 474, and 475 include a body with a stem 174 having an axially-formed slot delivery passage 200. Slot 176 is formed transaxially through stem 174 in communication with slot delivery passage 200. Proximal and distal transition surfaces 176e and 176g are formed at axial ends of slot 176. Stem 174 of applicator 470 is tapered axially distally inward. Flat surface 276 may be formed adjacent slot 176. The body is formed with flange 172 having a seat for receipt of a vagina or anus of a patient. Stem 174 of the applicator 474 is curved away from a normal axis of the body. Stem-like proximal section 174a of the body of applicator 475 is curved away from the normal axis of the body, with a distal end of the section integrally joined with a proximal end of the straight stem 174.

  • Publication number: 20110118659
Abstract: A multi-port syringe assembly that allows fluid to be drawn into or injected out of the assembly. For example, the assembly may include one syringe that is used to aspirate fluid from a patient and another syringe to inject a medical fluid into the patient. As one medical application, the first syringe can withdraw fluid from a patient and the second syringe can be used to inject a steroid into the patient. The assembly may include a third syringe so that a second medical fluid can be injected into the patient. With a three syringe assembly an anesthetic can be injected into the patient before aspiration of fluid. Alternatively, the assembly may have a two-way valve located in the first proximal channel.

  • Publication number: 20080275403
Abstract: A dual syringe assembly that allows for two liquids to be sequentially injected through the same needle. By way of example, one syringe may contain a steroid and the other syringe may hold an anesthetic. The syringes are coupled to a needle by a connector. The needle can be inserted into a hand by medical personnel and manipulated until placed in contact with a tendon sheath. The steroid can be administered by depressing a plunger of the syringe that contains the steroid. The anesthetic can then be injected into the hand by depressing the plunger of the other syringe. The needle is then pulled out of the hand. The injection of the anesthetic flushes steroid from the needle and the Y-connector so that steroid is not ejected onto surrounding tissue when the needle is removed from the hand.
