  • Patent number: 9464663
Abstract: An improved ball joint for use in a motor vehicle steering or suspension system includes a housing, a bearing disposed in the housing, and a ball stud supported within the housing by the bearing. The bearing includes at least a first bearing member formed from a first material and a second bearing member formed from a second dampening material attached to at least a portion of an outer surface of the first bearing member. The first bearing member has a bidirectional slot formed therein which is configured to allow the ball stud to articulate in a first direction and restrict and dampen articulation in a second direction which is generally transverse to the first direction.

  • Patent number: 8851785
Abstract: An improved ball joint for use in a motor vehicle steering or suspension system includes a ball joint having a housing defining an axis and a chamber having an open end. A bearing is disposed in the chamber. A ball stud having a ball portion is supported within the chamber by the bearing and a stud portion extends outwardly from the open end of the chamber. A retainer having a mounting portion is secured to the housing to retain the bearing in the chamber and an opening is formed therein through which the stud portion extends. The retainer is stamped and has a central portion configured with a dome shaped surface which extends over the open end of the chamber and is shaped complimentary to the ball portion.

  • Patent number: 8770602
Abstract: An improved structure for a steering linkage adapted for use in a vehicle steering system and method for producing the same. According to one embodiment, the steering linkage includes a first member having a first longitudinal axis, a second member having a second longitudinal axis, and a third member operatively coupling together the first member and the second member together with the first and second longitudinal axes in alignment with each other.

  • Patent number: 8702112
Abstract: An improved structure for a steering linkage adapted for use in a vehicle steering system and method for producing the same. According to one embodiment, the steering linkage comprises a first member and a second member disposed at least partially within the first member and operatively secured together by at least a mechanical type of connection. The second member includes a stop feature provided therein which is configured such that in the event the point of connection between the first member and the second member is disrupted, the stop feature is operative to prevent the first member and the second member from completely separating from each other so that at least a portion of the second member remains within the first member so as to operatively couple the first and second members together.

  • Publication number: 20110074123
Abstract: A hydraulically operated actuator is provided for controlling a roll of a vehicle that includes an actuator connected between a first mass and a second mass of the vehicle. An upper mount assembly is coupled to the first mass and a lower mount assembly is coupled to the second mass. A high-pressure chamber is disposed between the lower mount assembly and the upper mount assembly. The high-pressure chamber has a variable volume of hydraulic fluid disposed therein for selectively restricting the movement between the upper mount assembly and the lower mount assembly. A low-pressure accumulator includes a portal for receiving hydraulic fluid from the high-pressure chamber.
