Patent number: 9757115Abstract: Among other things, embodiments of a retaining mechanism for holding a portion of the suture of a suture anchor are disclosed. When a suture anchor is inserted into a patient, the portion of the suture extending from the body is held in tension by a two-piece snap-fit mechanism. One piece has a base with an extending shaft portion and a bulbous head, and a lumen runs through the shaft. The second piece has a hole or space for snapping the second piece onto the first piece. The extending portion of the suture runs through the lumen in the first piece and can be wrapped around the shaft. Snapping the second piece onto the first contains the suture and prevents loss of tension in it.Type: GrantFiled: February 16, 2015Date of Patent: September 12, 2017Assignee: Cook Medical Technologies LLCInventors: Elizabeth A. Champagne, Ryan Nowicki

Patent number: 9656043Abstract: A multilumen catheter with an inflow or an outflow lumen having at least two tube extensions extending from the distal end of the catheter that open into the inflow or outflow lumen. The catheter is useful in the extracorporeal treatment of blood, such as hemodialysis, hemofiltration or apheresis. A device to selectively test each of the two tube extensions for occlusion.Type: GrantFiled: December 22, 2011Date of Patent: May 23, 2017Assignee: Cook Medical Technologies LLCInventors: Neha S. Bhagchandani, Ryan Nowicki, Michael R. Kurrus

Patent number: 9301735Abstract: A drive system is provided for rotating and translating a biopsy member. The drive system includes housing having an opening having housing threads. A device gear within the opening has device gear threads that mate with the housing threads. A biopsy member is fixed to the device gear. The device gear threads have gear teeth that mate with pinion teeth that are disposed circumferentially on a pinion. A drive is configured to rotate the pinion thereby rotating and translating the biopsy member relative to the housing.Type: GrantFiled: December 18, 2013Date of Patent: April 5, 2016Assignee: COOK MEDICAL TECHNOLOGIES LLCInventors: Derek Roe Eller, Ryan Nowicki

Patent number: 9101350Abstract: There is disclosed, among other things, embodiments of a biopsy needle for taking a full core sample through soft tissue. In the illustrated embodiments, an inner tubular member having a semi-cylindrical distal end is within and slidable with respect to an outer tubular member. A semi-cylindrical channel is in the distal end, as well as a planar end surface. The channel has a set of one or more protrusions or texture, and a complementary set of protrusions or texture are placed on the inside of the outer member so that the sets of protrusions or texture face each other when the distal ends of the members are adjacent each other. Methods for using these embodiments are also described.Type: GrantFiled: October 26, 2012Date of Patent: August 11, 2015Assignee: Cook Medical Technologies LLCInventors: Cleon Stanley, Erik Hughes, James Taylor, Elizabeth A. Publication number: 20130110086Abstract: Among other things, a catheter assembly including a main catheter portion and a deformable tip portion is disclosed. Embodiments of the catheter have a lumen extending between distal and proximal ends. The deformable portion is configured to transform from a compact shape to an expanded shape when it is inserted into a patient. The cross-sectional sizes and shapes of the deformable portion and catheter are similar or about the same; therefore, the compact shape mimics a traditional distal tip of a catheter during insertion into a patient. The physician can use a standard catheter insertion technique. As the deformable portion warms to the patient's body temperature, the deformable portion bulges to the expanded shape. The expanded shape helps attain laminar flow and increases the flow rate through the catheter. To activate the deformable portion to return to the compact shape, cold liquid is passed through the deformable portion.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 14, 2012Publication date: May 2, 2013Inventors: Neha S. Bhagchandani, Michael R. Kurrus, Ryan Nowicki
