Patent number: 11904155Abstract: A heart assist device comprising a rotary pump housing having a cylindrical bore, a pumping chamber and a motor stator including an electrically conductive coil located within the housing and surrounding a portion of the cylindrical bore. A rotor has a cylindrical shaft with an impeller and one or of magnets located within the shaft that are responsive to the motor stator to drive actuation of the rotor. The housing bore is closely fitted to the outer surface of the shaft forming a hydrodynamic journal bearing with an annular clearance defining a leakage flow path. One or more of radial or axial thrust bearings may be provided to provide rotation stability to the rotor and flow within the leakage flow path. The relative orientation of positions of the inflow, outflow, and leakage flow paths may be varied within the pump, such as to accommodate different intended methods for implantation and/or use.Type: GrantFiled: February 4, 2021Date of Patent: February 20, 2024Assignee: STAR BP, INC.Inventors: J. Publication number: 20230390548Abstract: A blood pump system includes a blood pump and a corresponding controller. The blood pump includes an impeller that is sealed within the pump housing and hydrodynamically suspended within the pump housing. The pump impeller includes magnets, and is the rotor of a brushless direct current (DC) motor that is driven by electrical signals through stator wire coils in the pump housing, which creates a rotating magnetic field. The rotating magnetic field attracts the magnetized impeller and spins it with the rotating field. The controller provides field-oriented control for the brushless DC motor in the blood pump. The field-oriented control in the controller is provided in a programmable logic device separate from a control processor so that a software or hardware failure related to the control processor does not stop the blood pump. The field-oriented control allows sensing blood flow through the pump without having sensors in the blood stream.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 6, 2022Publication date: December 7, 2023Inventors: Jared D. Allen, Sean K. Barry, Dana G. Pelletier, J. Ryan Stanfield

Publication number: 20230320938Abstract: A docking station for removable connection to an enteral feeding pump enables automated flushing of an administration set loaded in the enteral feeding pump. The docking station may have a valve seat configured to receive a switchable flow valve of the administration set, a flush controller, an actuator connected to the flush controller and configured to releasably mate with the switchable flow valve when the switchable flow valve is received by the valve seat, and data communication means by which data signals sent by the enteral feeding pump are inputted to the flush controller of the docking station when the enteral feeding pump is connected to the docking station. In operation, the flush controller may receive a flush command sent by the enteral feeding pump and transmit a control signal to the actuator for switching the switchable flow valve to a flush position in response to the flush command.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 14, 2023Publication date: October 12, 2023Inventors: Kent F. Patent number: 11446431Abstract: A peristaltic infusion pump system has a convex platen surface opposite a linear peristaltic pumping mechanism. The convex platen surface may be part of a cassette of an administration set removably loadable in an infusion pump, or the convex platen surface may be a feature of the pump itself. Pumping efficiency is improved without giving up the ability to have independently controlled compensating fingers. The convex platen surface may have a trapezoidal profile, a curved profile, or a hybrid profile having upstream and downstream inclined portions connected by an intermediate curved portion.Type: GrantFiled: November 14, 2019Date of Patent: September 20, 2022Assignee: ZEVEX, INC.Inventors: Azur Azapagic, Kent F. Beck, J. Ryan Stanfield

Patent number: 10886663Abstract: An electrical connector includes a plug that mates with a receptacle. In a medical application, the plug is connected to electrical leads that pass through a patient's skin to an implanted medical device in the patient's body, while the receptacle is connected to external medical equipment. The plug is small in diameter so the size of the opening in the patient's skin can be minimized. All electrical contacts in the plug are on internal portions. The receptacle includes annular contacts that contact the internal electrical contacts on the plug when the plug and receptacle are properly mated. When the plug is plugged into the receptacle, spring-loaded retention arms in the receptacle lock into place on the plug, retaining the plug in the receptacle.Type: GrantFiled: June 30, 2020Date of Patent: January 5, 2021Assignee: VADovations, Inc.Inventors: J.
