  • Patent number: 7001568
Abstract: A method processes a gel monolith comprising pores filled with liquid, an inner region, and an outer region. The method includes removing a portion of the liquid from the pores of the gel monolith while both the inner and outer regions of the gel monolith remain wet. The method further includes shrinking the volume of the gel monolith during the removal of a portion of the liquid, with the gel monolith becoming correspondingly more dense. The method further includes subsequently removing substantially all of the remaining liquid from the pores of the gel monolith. Subsequently removing substantially all of the remaining liquid includes modulating a temperature gradient between the outer region and the inner region.

  • Publication number: 20050219685
Abstract: Systems and techniques relating to a microscope with an adjustable stage are described. A microscope includes a base, a support arm attached to and extending upwardly from the base, a head attached to the support arm, the head including a lens, and an eyepiece attached to the head. A stage is releasably attachable to the support arm between the head and the base at multiple locations, providing multiple working distances between a lower surface of the head and an upper surface of the stage. When the stage is attached to the support arm at a location, a working distance between the lower surface of the head and the upper surface of the stage is further adjustable to an either greater or lesser working distance. In another embodiment, microscopic and macroscopic viewing can both be provided using a lens changer with multiple lens positioned radially about an axis of rotation.

  • Publication number: 20020164972
Abstract: This purpose of this device is to protect an after market car stereo, of DIN size, installed in a vehicle from environmental pollutants, conditions, and theft. The device has tapering sides, which will allow it to fit onto after market car stereos installed in cars where there is minimal distance between the after market stereo and the dash of the car. The composition of the device is a multiple thickness plastic. This is what allows the device, when applied in a vehicle with an after market car stereo installed, to give the car a look of having no stereo installed. There is medium density foam located in the inside of the back plate, which acts as both an insulator and a filter against environmental pollutants and conditions.
