  • Patent number: 6928369
Abstract: The present invention provides a small, low power consumption ultrasonic flow velocity meter. The burst signal generation section 110 generates two kinds of burst signals with a phase difference and sends these burst signals to a pair of transmission/reception ultrasonic transducers 6 and 7 located on the upstream side and downstream side of the conduit to be measured 9. Upon reception of the corresponding burst signals, the pair of the transmission/reception ultrasonic transducers 6 and 7 convert the burst signals, send ultrasonic waves with a phase difference to the conduit to be measured 9, receive the ultrasonic wave sent by the other transmission/reception ultrasonic transducer and propagated through the conduit to be measured and convert the ultrasonic waves to received signals.

  • Patent number: 5786535
Abstract: An apparatus for detecting flaws using supersonic waves measures a thickness of a test object or a position of a cavity inside the test object by employing a pair of ultrasonic probes. By, changing a relative position of one ultrasonic probe to that of the other ultrasonic probe, a plurality of waveform data of ultrasonic reception signals is acquired. Each of the acquired waveform data is added together. Because a surface wave component of each waveform data has a shifted phase due to a difference in arrival times, a level of the surface wave component is offset and thus minimized through addition of the waveform data.

By changing a relative position of one ultrasonic probe to that of the other ultrasonic probe, a plurality of waveform data of ultrasonic reception signals is acquired. Each acquired waveform data is added per corresponding unit of time. Since a surface wave component of each waveform data has a shifted phase due to the difference in arrival time, a level of the surface wave component is offset and thus minimized through addition of the waveform data.

  • Patent number: 5280728
Abstract: An ultrasonic flow velocity measurement method and apparatus thereof and comprises ultrasonic wave transducers disposed on the upstream and downstream sides of a pipe and a control apparatus connected to these ultrasonic wave transducers. Concerning the flow velocity measurement, an average propagation sound velocity in the wedge which forms the ultrasonic wave transducers and the sound velocity on the surface where the wedge is brought into contact with the pipe are measured. The time from when ultrasonic waves are originated from the upstream side to the downstream side and and vice versa and to when they are received is measured. These measured values and the distance between the ultrasonic wave transducers are substituted for a predetermined function to determine the flow velocity of a fluid inside the pipe.

  • Patent number: 5170667
Abstract: An ultrasonic wave is emitted from an ultrasonic wave transducer for transmission to polymeric materials and received by an ultrasonic wave transducer for reception arranged at a predetermined distance away from the transducer for transmission. A propagation time of the ultrasonic wave and the level of the reception wave are measured during the process to heat or cool the polymeric materials. A state of the polymeric materials is discriminated on the basis of a characteristic curve which is determined by the propagation time and the reception wave level of the ultrasonic wave. In the case of measuring an asphalt paved road, when shoulder characteristics appear on the characteristic curve which is determined by the propagation time of the ultrasonic wave and the reception wave level, it is determined that a solid state in which a traffic lane can be opened was obtained.

  • Patent number: 4937795
Abstract: An access alarming method and apparatus for activating an alarm in the event of the access of a working vehicle, such as a road roller, to an object, such as a worker, in the same working area as the vehicle. An ultrasonic wave transmitted by a transmitter on the object is received by a receiver on the vehicle. The received signal is processed and used to determine the relative position of the vehicle with respect to the object. An alarm is activated, and/or the vehicle is braked when it is judged that the object is within a hazard area determined in relation to the position and course of the vehicle.

  • Patent number: 4930358
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method of and an apparatus for measuring flow velocity by using ultrasonic waves. Sound velocities of wedge portions constituting ultrasonic transducers provided at the upstream and the downstream sides of a piping, respectively, are measured, and the ultrasonic wave is oscillated from the upstream side to the downstream side and from the downstream side to the upstream side, respectively, and propagated in a fluid in the piping and respective times from the oscillating to receiving are measured. These measured values are substituted into a predetermined function and calculated, to thereby search the flow velocity of the fluid in the piping.
