The CPU changes the predetermined period for neglecting the starter stop condition, based on at least one of parameters, such as, the power supply voltage, an ambient temperature, a number of resets of the CPU during one cranking operation, and so on.

Abstract: A CPU confirms conditions of starter driving ports (output terminals of driver circuits) when the CPU returns from its reset condition, so as to determine an operational condition of a starter motor. When the CPU determines that the starter motor is maintained in a starter-ON condition by hardware latch circuits, the CPU changes an initialization process to an engine-start-up initialization process, according to which the starter-ON condition is continued.
