  • Patent number: 8267237
Abstract: An electromagnetic clutch includes an electromagnetic coil positioned within a coil housing. A pulley rotates relative to the housing and the coil. A shaft is rotatably supported by the housing. A hub plate is fixed for rotation with the shaft. A floating element is positioned between the pulley and the hub plate. An elastomeric ring is mounted between the pulley and the floating element and provides a driving connection therebetween. The elastomeric ring is sized to urge the floating element into frictional driving engagement with the hub plate and is compressible during energization of the coil to decouple the floating element from the hub plate.

  • Publication number: 20100133059
Abstract: A dual clutch assembly is operable to drivingly couple a first shaft with one or both of second and third shafts. The clutch assembly has a coil housing having a first electromagnetic coil and a second electromagnetic coil. The first shaft is rotatably mounted to the coil housing. The first shaft is fixed for rotation with a first rotor cooperating with the first electromagnetic coil and a second rotor cooperating with the second electromagnetic coil. A first armature plate is elastically coupled to the second shaft to selectively couple and uncouple the first shaft with the second shaft upon energizing and de-energizing the first electromagnetic coil. A second armature plate is elastically coupled to a third shaft to selectively couple and uncouple the first shaft with the third shaft upon energizing and de-energizing the second electromagnetic coil.

  • Publication number: 20080196992
Abstract: A pulley integrally has a hub, an outer rim and a flange joining the hub and outer rim. A flux ring is press fitted to the inside surface of the outer rim. The flux ring has an inner diameter sized to closely encircle an electromagnetic coil mounted on a compressor housing. The pulley assembly provides a simple method of providing different sized pulleys for a compressor, enabling different sized engines to utilize a common compressor.

  • Patent number: 6394252
Abstract: An electromagnetically actuated power transmitting assembly has a cup shaped pulley structure mounted for rotation about the input shaft of a power driven device. The pulley structure has an outer annular driven portion for engaging an endless flexible driving element such that engine driven movement of the driving element rotates the pulley structure. The outer annular portion has ferromagnetic material along at least an internal diametrical periphery thereof to allow magnetic flux to flow therethrough. A one-piece flux carrier/mounting structure is formed from ferromagnetic material and has a mounting portion fixedly mounted to the power driven device and an annular flux carrier portion nested within the cup shaped pulley structure to allow the pulley structure to rotate relative to the flux carrier and to allow magnetic flux to flow therebetween. An annular magnetic coil for inducing a field of magnetic flux is fixedly mounted in the carrier portion.
