  • Publication number: 20060286451
Abstract: A sealed battery in which an opening of a battery case is sealed with any one of a sealing member via an insulating gasket, and a sealing unit in which a sealing member is crimped inside a filter via an inner gasket. The sealed battery includes a sheet-like gasket placed upon the sealing member so that the battery case is tightly sealed with any one of a combination of the insulating gasket and the sheet-like gasket, and a combination of the insulating gasket, the sheet-like gasket, and the inner gasket, by crimping the opening of the battery case inwards. This secures sufficient space for the compressing while the crimp-sealing is achieved.

  • Publication number: 20060228623
Abstract: A battery pack having a battery in which a battery case and a cap of a sealing plate sealing an open end of the battery case serve as connection electrodes of opposite polarities, a terminal unit including external connection terminals respectively connected to these connection electrodes and an insulating cover integrally formed therewith, the terminal unit covering at least one end of the battery case, and a resilient member interposed between one end of the battery case and the terminal unit in a compressed state. In the manufacturing method of this battery pack, the dimension between the terminal unit and the other end of the battery case is controlled when fixing the terminal unit with the battery case. The battery pack thus has a simple and low cost configuration and yet exhibits high reliability in terms of the connection state of the external connection terminals when set in a portable electronic device.

  • Patent number: 6964690
Abstract: A battery case (1) has a cutting groove (10) formed on its elongated side surface (1a). Between a groove bottom surface of the cutting groove (10) and an inner surface of the battery case (1) is provided a thin-walled easily-rupturable portion (12) designed to rupture at an instant when an internal pressure of the battery case (1) reaches a predetermined value. Thereby, a safety mechanism for use with a prismatic battery is realized. The manufacture of the safety mechanism is as follows. A cutting blade (37) rotated at a high speed by a high-speed rotary body (30) is brought into cutting engagement with the elongated side surface (1a) of the battery case (1) of the prismatic battery in finished form until it reaches a predetermined depth and is fixed, and subsequently the high-speed rotary body (30) or the prismatic battery is brought into rectilinear relative movement.

  • Patent number: 6561341
Abstract: An apparatus whereby cylindrical cans formed of a ferromagnetic material and transported at high speed along a carrying conveyor in such a contiguous way as having no gaps between adjoining cylindrical cans are separated so as to provide a spacing therebetween to eliminate interference between the adjoining cylindrical cans, thereby supplying a plurality of cylindrical cans with reliability to a main index wheel of an automatic machine for producing cylindrical cans. The apparatus includes a carrying conveyor, star index wheel, supply index wheel and main index wheel. The supply index wheel has permanent magnets, each holding an individual cylindrical can by suction. The transport speed of a plurality of cylindrical cans transported along a conveyor at high speed is reduced for a moment by the star index wheel.

  • Patent number: 6391490
Abstract: A battery has one terminal on a sealing assembly fitted to one open end of the cell casing, and the other terminal on the exterior surface of the cell casing such as to extend along the entire circular circumferential surface of a predetermined width. The other end of the cell casing opposite from the terminal is electrically insulated by affixing nonconductive films thereto. Two heat-shrinkable nonconductive labels are wound around and bonded to the cell casing, so that the terminal is formed in a recessed, ring-like form between the heat-shrinkable nonconductive labels.
