  • Patent number: 7073824
Abstract: A fuel tank disposed on a lower face of a floor panel beneath a driver's seat and a passenger's seat. A protruding portion of the fuel tank that protrudes rearward is housed within floor tunnels formed in the floor panel. A fuel supply pipe is connected to the rear end of the protruding portion. This not only enables the capacity of the fuel tank to be increased by utilizing an inner space of the floor tunnels, but also enables the resistance against fuel fed to the fuel tank to be reduced by shortening the fuel supply pipe.

  • Patent number: 6302133
Abstract: A fuel tank T has a seal member 18 provided at a fuel entry port 16 provided at an upper end of a filler pipe 12 extending continuously to a tank main body 11 for sealing the outer circumference of a nozzle of a fuel filling gun G. A first relief valve 27 and a second relief valve 29 which are adapted to open when the internal pressure of the filler pipe 12 reaches or exceeds a predetermined value are provided along a first relief passage 26 and a second relief passage 28, respectively, which continuously extend to the filler pipe 12. When excessive fuelling occurs, the first relief valve 27 is made to open so that fuel inside the filler pipe 12 is allowed to be discharged to the outside thereof, and the second relief valve 29 is made to open so that part of fuel inside the filler pipe 12 is allowed to flow out into the fuel entry port 16 located above the seal member so as to inform the operator of a fuel filling pump of the occurrence of an abnormal situation to thereby prompt him or her to stop fueling.

  • Patent number: 5988145
Abstract: Blockage of a drain pipe of a canister due to freezing or clogging with mud is prevented with a simple structure comprised of a small number of parts. A drain pipe, mounted to a canister body having an adsorbent accommodated therein, includes an inner shell which extends downwards from the canister body and opens at its lower end, and an outer shell which opens at its upper and lower ends. The lower end of the inner shell is inserted into the opening in the upper end of the outer shell with a gap left therebetween. Even if the opening in the lower end of the outer shell is blocked due to freezing or clogging with mud, surplus fuel or the exterior air can flow from the canister body via the opening in the upper end of the outer shell. If the opening in the lower end of the outer shell is submerged in water when evaporated fuel is purged into intake system, the drawing of water into the canister body can be prevented, because the opening in the upper end of the outer shell opens into the atmosphere.

  • Patent number: 5918581
Abstract: An evaporative emission control system for an internal combustion engine includes an evaporative fuel passage extending between the intake system and the fuel tank of the engine. A control valve is arranged across the evaporative fuel passage, for opening and closing the evaporative fuel passage. The opening of the control valve is controlled such that the interior of the fuel tank is under negative pressure during operation and stoppage of the engine.

  • Patent number: 5263458
Abstract: A fuel feeder for an automotive engine, which comprises a fuel tank with a sub-tank provided therein for feeding fuel from the sub-tank to an engine. Excess fuel returned from the engine is led to an overflow chamber disposed in the sub-tank and thence overflows into the sub-tank. Normally, the overflow chamber is thus full of returned fuel. When the fuel in the sub-tank is brought to one side due to a sudden acceleration or deceleration or a turning of the vehicle, the fuel in the overflow chamber is also brought to the same side and overflows from the overflow chamber, thus increasing fuel in the sub-tank.

  • Patent number: 5193511
Abstract: There is provided a connecting pipe 2 for communicating a fuel tank 1 and a canister 3 filled with a fuel absorbent, and a nonreturn valve 4 which is interposed in an intermediate portion of the connecting pipe 2 and is opened to allow vapor fuel to flow from the fuel tank 1 to the canister 3 only when a pressure of the fuel tank side exceeds a pressure of canister side, and there is also provided an electromagnetic switching valve 8 disposed in parallel with the nonreturn valve 4. To this electromagnetic switching valve an actuation signal is fed by a switch which operates when a fuel pump P is actuated or when a fuel filler cap is operated to open, and in response to this actuation signal the electromagnetic valve is opened to eliminate a negative pressure in the fuel tank.
