  • Patent number: 12104336
Abstract: A building constructed with a reduced-carbon-emission portland cement concrete slab-on-ground (PCC SoG) having a nominal thickness that is less than a PCC SoG design for the ground site having a design thickness based on design guidelines set forth by the American Concrete Institute. Carbon emission savings for the reduced-carbon-emission PCC SoG and a video record of the surface of the ground site prior to construction of the reduced-carbon-emission PCC SoG are stored by a processor in a first database. The processor verifies that the building constructed with the reduced-carbon-emission PCC SoG has been completed. The processor transfers at least a portion of the carbon emission savings and the video record stored in the first database to a second database in preparation for the sale or exchange of the carbon emission savings only after the processor verifies that the building constructed with the reduced-carbon-emission PCC SoG has been completed.

  • Patent number: 11946211
Abstract: A ground site for a building is prepared for construction of a portland cement concrete slab-on-grade (PCC SoG). Using a computerized weather application, weather conditions for a geographic locale that includes the ground site are monitored to identify a window-of-time during which the weather application indicates there is a less than 50% chance of precipitation at the geographic locale. The surface of the ground site is proof rolled during the window-of-time. Using concrete emplacement equipment during the window-of-time and only after the ground site passes proof rolling, wet concrete is emplaced on the ground site to a nominal thickness that does not exceed 7 inches and that is at least one inch less than a PCC SoG design for the ground site having a design thickness based on design guidelines set forth by the American Concrete Institute. Emplacing must be completed with at least 4 hours remaining in the window-of-time.

  • Patent number: 9926701
Abstract: A method of fabricating a concrete slab system places bed of a first concrete on a base. The bed has a top surface, a bottom surface, and edge surfaces. The bed is exposed to a drying environment such that the top surface develops shrinkage cracks and portions of the bed separate from the base. A force applied to the top surface induces non-shrinkage cracks in the bed that extend to the bed's bottom surface. Non-concrete material is placed on the bed's top surface and on each of its edge surfaces. The non-concrete material and bed are covered with a second concrete having stretchable fibers mixed therein.

  • Publication number: 20150240489
Abstract: A concrete floor system includes an integrated concrete slab and a joint strip. The slab has a top region defined by concrete with stretchable fibers mixed therein. The top region covers and is partially blended into concrete beneath the top region. A sawcut, extending into the slab, is defined by opposing walls and a bottom. The joint strip is disposed in the sawcut and includes a top portion and a shaft portion. The top portion fills an upper part of the sawcut. The shaft portion spans a lower part of the sawcut. The shaft portion has at least one pair of opposing fins angled towards the joint strip's top portion. Each fin terminates at and is in contact with one of the opposing side walls of the sawcut.

  • Publication number: 20110304072
Abstract: A method of fabricating an integrated concrete slab includes places a first concrete mixture on a base to form a slab having a surface region in a plastic state. Next, a second concrete mixture in a plastic state thereof is placed on the surface region while the surface region is in its plastic state. The second concrete mixture includes concrete with approximately 3-9 pounds of stretchable fibers mixed in each cubic yard thereof.

  • Patent number: 8052347
Abstract: A floating screed device has a first section for cutting through plastic concrete and a second section for floating on the plastic concrete. The two sections are pivotally coupled for rotational movement about a pivot point. Elevation of the second section is measured and used to rotate the first section as the floating screed device is moved through a volume of the plastic concrete that is unfinished. As a result, the second section pitches to follow the first section.

  • Publication number: 20110044757
Abstract: A floating screed device includes: an elongated float, rigid and spaced-apart rods with the tops thereof defining a planar region having a planar bottom for floating on plastic concrete, a device coupled to the float to determine elevation thereof relative to a target elevation in the plastic concrete, and a support and adjustment (S/A) mechanism that moves the rods based on the elevation so-determined as the floating screed device is moved through a volume of the plastic concrete that is unfinished. In general, the rods are moved by the S/A mechanism such that the planar region defined by the rods rotates about an axis that is parallel to the rods and perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the float.
