  • Patent number: 8396927
Abstract: In a telecommunications network, method and apparatus for blocking unwanted messages (spam). Messages are first examined by a fast process which uses rules and data tables to determine whether a message can be passed or is potentially a spam message. If the message is potentially a spam message, the message content is analyzed by a deep process. Advantageously, most messages can be passed or blocked quickly and extensive data processing is required only for the few messages which cannot be categorized by the fast process.

  • Patent number: 7239866
Abstract: This invention relates to a method and apparatus for blocking spam messages originated in a different network. An anti-spam check is made in response to an initial Send Routing Information (SRI) message received in a destination network of a message. The result of this check is sent back to the originating network along with a destination address of a switch in the destination network, and SRI spam code and Mobile Terminated (MT) Routing Address Correlation ID. If SRI spam code indicates a spam, then subsequent transmission of the MT message with the same Correlation ID is blocked in the interworking switch or SMSC.

  • Publication number: 20070143236
Abstract: Systems and techniques for classification of incoming text messages into categories. An initial set of categories is created and populated with a set of initial messages in each category. Incoming messages are assigned to a category based on text analysis of the incoming message and analysis of dissimilarities and differences between the message and messages already in the category. A set of unclassified messages is also maintained for incoming messages that do not fit an established category. Periodically, unclassified messages are reassigned to one of the established categories or to new categories created based on analysis of the unclassified messages.

  • Publication number: 20060041622
Abstract: A spam filtering system and method are disclosed for filtering spam destined for a mobile communication device. In the spam filtering system, a processing system receives a message destined for a mobile communication device through an interface. The processing system processes the message based on first filtering criteria to make an initial determination whether the message is suspected of comprising spam. If the processing system determines that the message is not suspected of comprising spam, then the processing system transmits the message to a message center. If the processing system determines that the message is suspected of comprising spam, then the processing system processes the message based on second filtering criteria to make a final determination whether the message comprises spam. If the processing system determines that the message does comprise spam, then the processing system blocks the message.
