Publication number: 20240132017Abstract: Proximity sensors, e.g., Bluetooth® sensors, are installed in a vehicle. Each sensor determines/estimates approximate distance from itself to a user mobile device. In response to the distance increasing above a predetermined distance departure limit, as the sensors communicate to a vehicle control system (VCS) through Bluetooth® or similar links, the VCS causes predetermined departure actions to be performed, such as locking the doors, turning off headlights, activating the vehicle's security system, and/or others. In response to the distance decreasing below a predetermined distance arrival limit, as the sensors communicate to the VCS through the link(s), the VCS causes predetermined arrival actions to be performed, such as unlocking the doors, flashing the headlights, beeping the horn, deactivating the security system, and/or others. Hysteresis may be applied to the decisions whether to perform the departure/arrival actions.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 3, 2024Publication date: April 25, 2024Inventor: JAMES S. TURNER

Publication number: 20230328927Abstract: Active two-phase cooling systems incorporate a cooling medium that changes phase as it absorbs heat dissipated by a heat source and a pump or a compressor that urges the cooling medium through a cooling loop. Operation of some heat sources, e.g., electronic devices, can improve if maintained at a substantially uniform operating temperature. A cooling medium can enter a node for cooling such a heat source at or near a saturation state and can exhaust from the node as a saturated mixture, providing a substantially uniform temperature across the node while taking advantage of the cooling medium's relatively high latent-heat of phase-change to provide a high rate of cooling to the heat source. Although counterintuitive, a cooling loop can pre-heat a sub-cooled flow of the cooling medium to provide the medium to the node in a saturated state. Such pre-heating can be achieved by the saturated mixture of the cooling medium after exhausting from the node.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 7, 2023Publication date: October 12, 2023Inventors: Mohammad Reza Najjari, Cameron S. Turner

Publication number: 20230256935Abstract: A vehicle control system (VCS) in a passenger compartment interfaces with underhood components using a Bluetooth® link. The underhood components include a siren assembly with a sound generator and backup battery. The battery enables the siren assembly to function after the vehicle's battery is disabled. The siren assembly includes a Bluetooth® transceiver for establishing the link with the VCS. The siren assembly monitors the hood of the vehicle through a hood sensor, to detect unauthorized opening. In response to such opening, the siren assembly transmits an alarm to the VCS, which transmits an alarm to a user's mobile device and/or a security service. The sound generator may also be activated, by itself or under control of the VCS. The siren assembly connects to the engine computer/ignition module, to allow the VCS to monitor engine speed, and facilitate proper start of the engine when the VCS receives a remote start command.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 3, 2023Publication date: August 17, 2023Applicant: VOXX INTERNATIONAL CORPORATIONInventor: James S. Publication number: 20230239734Abstract: Techniques are disclosed for managing message redundancy for one or more devices. In one example, a device receives a message from a second device using a transmission protocol, the message comprising a control instruction for an accessory device and a message identifier. The device can transmit using the transmission protocol, a second message to the accessory device, the second message comprising the control instruction and a second message identifier. The device can receive a third message from the second device using a second transmission protocol, the second message comprising a second control instruction for the accessory device and a third message identifier. The device can compare the third message identifier with the message identifier to determine whether the second control instruction is a duplicate of the control instruction. The device can determine whether to transmit the third message to the accessory device based on the comparison.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 30, 2022Publication date: July 27, 2023Applicant: Apple Inc.Inventors: Benjamin S.
