  • Patent number: 8988996
Abstract: The present disclosure relates to the field of multicast/broadcast transmission of content data. A method embodiment for controlling transmission of a PTM service from a content source 102 to a plurality of recipients 120, 122, 124 in a service area, wherein the service area is arranged at a higher hierarchy level and comprises a plurality of local areas arranged at a lower hierarchy level, comprises receiving location information indicating a location in the service area; determining an input traffic load of the PTM service to be transmitted to the service area; selecting the service area or a subset of one or more of the local areas contained in the service area as a destination area for the PTM service, wherein the selection is based on the received location information and the input traffic load; and controlling transmission of the PTM service to the selected destination area.

  • Patent number: 8837395
Abstract: A method of conveying data unit traffic from a radio terminal in a mobile communication system that comprises an access network (E-UTRAN) and a core network (Evolved Packet Core) is described. It comprises:—receiving (S31) a service request message for data unit communication from said radio terminal, and—performing (S32) a conveying decision procedure, and on the basis of an outcome of said conveying decision procedure, associating a radio channel between an access network entity and a radio terminal with one of —a channel to a dedicated data unit processing entity (P-GW) in said core network for conveying data units from said radio terminal to said dedicated data unit processing entity for processing (S33), and—an access network channel for conveying data units from said radio terminal within said access network (S34).

  • Publication number: 20130331081
Abstract: A method in a communication device (120) for reducing power consumption in the communication device (120) is provided. The communication device (120) and a base station (110) are comprised in a cellular communications network (100). The communication device obtains information about an antenna beam (117) of the base station (110). The antenna beam (117) will be perceived by the communication device (120) in time periods. The information relates to when in time a time period starts and the duration of the time period. When being out of the time period, the communication device refrains from attempting to receive or transmit data using the antenna beam (117). During the refraining no power is consumed for attempting to receive or transmit data using the antenna beam (117).

  • Patent number: 8270997
Abstract: A method of providing a localized information service using an infrastructure of a cellular communication network is described. It comprises a service source terminal transmitting a network upload message to the cellular communication network, said network upload message comprising a payload part, a reflection entity of said cellular communication network receiving said network upload message, generating one or more reflection messages comprising said payload part, and sending said one or more reflection messages to a group of service destination terminals that stand in a predetermined spatial relationship with said service source terminal.

  • Patent number: 8254392
Abstract: The present invention relates to a link layer control protocol implementation in a communication system. To improve operative efficiency of the link layer control protocol implementation it is suggested to delay issuance of a retransmission request for a missing data unit during a retransmission delay time period. Therefore, according to the present invention a retransmission request is not issued immediately upon detection of a missing data unit. Therefore, the present invention avoids issuance of false alarm for the missing data unit when it is received during the retransmission delay period.

  • Patent number: 8228915
Abstract: The invention relates to techniques for handling residual space occurring in packet-based data transmissions, wherein according to one embodiment of a method for controlling a packet-based data transmission, in case an amount of residual space in the packet (300) is below a predefined threshold value, a last one of one or more sub-headers (304) in the header (302) of the packet (300) is constructed by setting a length indicator (LF) to a value indicating to a receiver that no further sub-header follows.
