  • Publication number: 20160277972
Abstract: Devices, computer-program products, and methods for identifying two or more traffic flows with similar packet traffic characteristics are disclosed. In some implementations, the traffic flows may be transmittable over one or more wireless paths. In these implementations, the method may further include identifying a wireless path along which the two or more traffic flows may be transmitted. In some implementations, the method may further include determining whether the wireless path can implement spatial signal multiplexing. Making this determination may include using sounding information associated with the wireless path. In some implementations, the method may include grouping two or more traffic flows to transmit along the wireless path when the wireless path implements spatial signal multiplexing. In these implementations, the two or more traffic flows may be grouped according to similar packet traffic characteristics.

  • Publication number: 20160255661
Abstract: Described herein are systems, methods and computer program products for controlling operation of wireless network devices, such as wireless access points and wireless client devices. The techniques described simplify the process of associating wireless devices with wireless networks. Wireless devices can associate with a wireless access point without knowing details of the wireless access point, such as a service set identifier (SSID). Upon associating with a wireless access point, client devices cease transmission of or reduce a transmission rate of wireless probe requests, resulting in more efficient wireless radio frequency use and reduced possibility of interference due to wireless probe request transmissions.

  • Publication number: 20160112520
Abstract: The present disclosure discloses a method and a network device for client association management based on estimated session duration. Specifically, a network device determines that a client device is on an active session. The client device is associated with a first access point of a plurality of access points. The network then estimates a remaining duration of the active session to obtain an estimated remaining duration. Responsive at least to the estimated remaining duration of the active session being greater than a threshold value, the network device causes the client device to associate with a second access point different than the first access point. Responsive at least to the estimated remaining duration of the active session being less than the threshold value, the network device refrains from causing the client device to associate with the second access point.

  • Publication number: 20160037424
Abstract: Methods and systems are described for determining an optimal access point for a client device based on the relative difference between signal strengths of wireless signals received by the client device from access points. In particular, the signal strengths of wireless signals received by a client device from access points are determined without receipt of signal strength and/or transmit power information from the client device. Instead, the signal strength difference value may be determined based on known characteristics of signals transmitted by the access points and known characteristics of signals received by the access points from the client device. This relative difference value may thereafter be used to determine an appropriate access point to provide network access to the client device.

  • Publication number: 20150318878
Abstract: Disclosed herein is a system, apparatus, and method for reducing self-interference within a wireless network device using channel state information feedback and beamforming techniques. The self-interference within a device may be reduced by first transmitting, by a first circuitry, a first set signals using a first radiation pattern through a first set of antennas coupled with the first circuitry. Then, based on feedback information associated with the first set of signals detected by a second circuitry of the device, a second radiation pattern to be used by the first circuitry and the first set of antennas that reduces receipt of signals by the second circuitry that are transmitted by the first set of antennas or leaked from the first circuitry may be determined. Thereafter, a second set of signals may be transmitted by the first set of antennas using the second radiation pattern.

  • Publication number: 20150312131
Abstract: The present disclosure discloses a method and network device for software-defined client device management. Specifically, a network device can cause a client device to switch association with a first access point to a second access point. The network device determines whether a number of times the client device has been caused to switch association with an access point exceeds a threshold value for the first period of time. If not, the network device causes the client device to switch to an association with a third access point. Also, the network device determines a configuration indicating when any access point with which a client device is associated may be modified. Based on the configuration, the network device determines whether an association of the client device should not be modified. Also, based on one or more attributes, the network device selectively causes the client device to switch an association.

  • Patent number: 9143916
Abstract: According to one embodiment of the invention, a method for optimizing revenue for an operator of a network comprises receiving control information by a network device. The control information includes a first airtime representing an amount of airtime used for wireless data transmissions to a first group of network devices. The method further involves an operation of computing an airtime allocation for the first group of network devices based on the first airtime and lease rates. The lease rates are prices per unit of airtime to be paid by an operator associated with one or more of the network devices.

  • Patent number: 9124547
Abstract: The present disclosure discloses a method and network device for enforcing uplink airtime fairness in wireless local area networks. The disclosed network device receives usage limits associated with transmissions from one or more client devices. The client devices transmit packets to the network device via one or more uplink wireless mediums. The disclosed network device further collects wireless medium usage times associated with the client devices, and calculates a size for transmission windows corresponding to the client devices based on the wireless medium usage times and the usage limits. The transmission windows can be TCP advertisement windows whose size determines a rate of transmissions permitted over the wireless medium. Then, the disclosed network device sets the transmission window to the calculated size.

  • Publication number: 20150223249
Abstract: The present disclosure discloses a network device and/or method for computing coverage set and resource allocations in wireless networks. The disclosed network device selects a radio frequency subdomain in a wireless network, and further determines a coverage set for the selected radio frequency subdomain. The coverage set includes a subset of access nodes in the selected radio frequency domain. Moreover, a respective access node in the radio frequency subdomain satisfies one of (a) the respective access node is a member of the coverage set, and (b) the respective access node is covered by at least one member of the coverage set with a signal strength stronger than a predetermined threshold.

  • Patent number: 9100895
Abstract: A method directed to receiving, by a network device, client density data of a first access node in a plurality of access nodes in a network. Also, the network device receives client density data of a second access node in the plurality of access nodes. The network device determines whether the client density data of the first access node overlaps with the client density data of the second access node. In response to the received client density data of the first access node overlapping with the received client density data of the second access node, the network device identifies the first access node and the second access node as members of a virtual radio frequency (RF) neighborhood, wherein the virtual RF neighborhood comprises a subset of a RF neighborhood. Each member of the virtual RF neighborhood is capable of receiving beacons from other members of the virtual RF neighborhood.
