  • Patent number: 8856483
Abstract: Virtual data stores may be sparsely provisioned by virtual data storage services in a manner that controls risk of implementation resource shortages. Relationships between requested data storage space size, data storage server capacity, allocated data storage space size and/or allocated data storage space utilization may be tracked on a per data store, per customer, per data storage server, and/or a per virtual data storage service basis. For each such basis, a set of constraints may be specified to control the relationships. The set of constraints may be enforced during implementation resource allocation, and by migration of data storage space portions to different implementation resources as part of a sparse provisioning load balancing. Sparse provisioning details may be made explicit to virtual data storage service customers to varying degrees including explicit, aggregate on a per customer basis, and aggregate on a per virtual data storage service basis.

  • Patent number: 8830330
Abstract: Segments of interest within video footage are identified automatically. Such segments of interest include portions of the footage which were taken using a hand held camera and which show a static subject, portions which track the motion of a moving subject, and portions which show an abrupt event. Methods are presented for identifying such segments, based on motion and/or colour analysis of the video footage or based on observations of discontinuities in the video footage following a period of stability.

  • Patent number: 8829953
Abstract: A programmable clock divider includes first and second comparators for generating first and second signals respectively based on a count value of a counter and a frequency ratio value. First and second flip-flops delay the first and second signals by one clock cycle of the input clock signal. An active-low latch delays the second signal by half a clock cycle of the input clock signal. A multiplexer receives the delayed first and second signals at first and second input terminals respectively and the input clock signal at a select terminal, and generates a divided clock signal. The multiplexer outputs the second delayed signal when the input clock signal is at a logic high state and outputs the first delayed signal when the input clock signal is at a logic low state.

  • Publication number: 20140180862
Abstract: Usage of shared resources can be managed by enabling users to obtain different types of guarantees at different times for various types and/or levels of resource capacity. A user can select to have an amount or rate of capacity dedicated to that user. A user can also select reserved capacity for at least a portion of the requests, tasks, or program execution for that user, where the user has priority to that capacity but other users can utilize the excess capacity during other periods. Users can alternatively specify to use the excess capacity or other variable, non-guaranteed capacity. The capacity can be for any appropriate functional aspect of a resource, such as computational capacity, throughput, latency, bandwidth, and storage. Users can submit bids for various types and combinations of excess capacity, and winning bids can receive dedicated use of the excess capacity for at least a period of time.

  • Publication number: 20140031037
Abstract: Cell selection procedures performed in a wireless network are disclosed that include determining a uplink/downlink (ULDL) preference of a User Equipment (UE) in communication with a first evolved Node B (eNB) having a first ULDL configuration and a second eNB having a second ULDL configuration. The UE compares the first and second ULDL configurations to the ULDL preference. The UE selects the first eNB based on the first ULDL configuration matching the ULDL preference. In alternative aspects, a first eNB having a first ULDL configuration and in communication with a UE receives the ULDL preference of the UE. The first eNB compares the first ULDL configuration and a second ULDL configuration of a second eNB in communication with the UE to the ULDL preference. The first eNB selects the second eNB based on the second ULDL configuration matching the ULDL preference.

  • Patent number: 8626766
Abstract: Systems and methods for ranking and importing business listings are provided. In one aspect, a processor receives a plurality of business listing groups, where each business listing group includes business listings. The processor selects a sample set of business listings from each business listing group for verification. The processor determines ranks for the business listing groups based on verification information indicating the accuracy of the business data in the selected sample set of business listings. The processor selects the highest ranked business listing group based on the verification information and imports the business listings in the selected business listing group into a set of business listing records for presentment to a user.

  • Publication number: 20130258925
Abstract: Apparatus and methods for optimizing data transmission include receiving an indicator indicating the availability of a first communication channel, the first communication channel having a higher data rate than a second communication channel. Aspects can include determining whether the first communication channel is available to transmit data based on the indicator, and transmitting the data via the first communication channel, upon determining that the first communication channel is available. Additionally, aspects include entering a sleep state, upon determining that the first communication channel is not available, and determining whether the first communication channel has become available during a subsequent awake period. Entering a sleep state and determining whether the first communication channel has become available during a subsequent awake period may occur until the first communication channel becomes available or until an expiration of a timer.
