  • Patent number: 11890107
Abstract: Provided herein are methods and systems for monitoring a patient using a pressure-sensing device containing a pressure-sensitive region configured to selectively overlie a pressure ulcer-prone body part of the patient. In some embodiments, the pressure-sensing device includes a multilayered sensing unit containing a pressure-sensing layer to sense force and an adhesive layer configured to attach the pressure-sensing device to the body part. Also provided is a kit that includes the pressure-sensing device. The present methods, systems, and kits may find use in reducing the risk of pressure ulcer development in a patient.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: April 30, 2021
Date of Patent: February 6, 2024
Assignee: The Regents of the University of California
Inventors: Hanmin Lee, Sachin Rangarajan, Isabelle Chumfong
  • Patent number: 11844542
Abstract: In one embodiment, a vacuum-actuated surgical grasper includes a suction head adapted to interface with patient tissue, a suction tube connected to and in fluid communication with the suction head, and a handle connected to the suction tube, the handle comprising an internal passage in fluid communication with the suction tube through which fluid from the suction tube can flow and a pivotable actuation lever that controls this flow through the passage.

  • Publication number: 20210177448
Abstract: A suction head for a vacuum-actuated surgical grasper includes a proximal portion, a distal portion extending from the proximal portion, the distal portion being flared so as to have an outer dimension that increases from a proximal end of the distal portion to a distal end of the distal portion, and an inner passage extending through the suction head, the inner passage including a proximal portion that extends through the proximal portion of the suction head and a distal portion that extends through the distal portion of the suction head, wherein the distal portion of the inner passage is also flared so as to have an inner dimension that increases from the proximal end of the distal portion of the suction head to the distal end of the distal portion of the suction head, wherein the distal portion of the inner passage also includes internal ribs configured to grip tissue.
