    Abstract: An application, such as a personal assistant executed by a smart phone, determines that a user does not have any scheduled activities planned in their calendar for a period of time. Based on a profile of the user that describes user interests, the application determines multiple upcoming activities for the period of time that the user may enjoy. Using a ranking model that is based on user behavior as observed and collected by the application, the application selects one or more of the upcoming activities to recommend to the user. Based on whether or not the user accepts or rejects the recommended activities, the ranking model is updated using machine learning.
