  • Patent number: 4642606
Abstract: A running data display unit (1) for a bicycle calculates running data such as running speed, running distance, average speed, maximum speed etc. of a bicycle, based on pulse signals from a revolution detecting portion (3). This calculation is performed by a microcomputer incorporated in the display unit. The running data obtained by the calculation are displayed in a digital form on a liquid crystal display panel (15). The panel (15) gives display of a speed unit km/h or mile/h selectively. This display of km/h (or mile/h) emits a winking light when the microcomputer measures determined running data such as the running distance, the average speed etc. and emits uninterrupted light when measuring of such running data is stopped. As a result, the rider of the bicycle can immediately ascertain whether measuring operation is being made or not.

This calculation is performed by a microcomputer incorporated in the display unit. The running data obtained by the calculation are displayed in a digital form on a liquid crystal display panel (15). The liquid crystal panel (15) also makes display of a pulse mark (26). The display of the pulse mark (26) turns on and off alternately at the rise of the pulse applied normally from the revolution detecting portion (3). As a result, by the display of the pulse mark (26), the rider of the bicycle can ascertain normal operation of the display unit (1), particularly normal operation of the revolution detecting portion (3).

This calculation is performed by a microcomputer incorporated in the display unit. The running data obtained by the calculation are displayed in a digital form on a liquid crystal display panel (15). If the running data displayed on the panel (15) is the running distance, the running distance is represented as a numerical value including five figures at maximum. The running distance not attaining 1000 km (or miles) is represented down to two decimal places and when the running distance attains 1000 km (or miles), the manners of display is automatically by the microcomputer (30) changed so that display is made down to only the decimal place.

  • Patent number: 4597031
Abstract: A lighting fixture including a body, an elastic member integrally attached to said body through a washer, the elastic member being engaged with a handlebar portion of, e.g. a bicycle, and a belt attached to one end of said washer. The belt is wound around the handlebar portion with the free end being fixedly inserted into a space defined at the other end of said washer, whereby the body is fixedly attached to said bicycle. The washer is detachably attached to the body by complementary engagement means provided on the bottom of said body and on the side of the washer facing the bottom so as to allow said washer to be selectively located in a plurality of directions with respect to said body. The complementary engagement means comprise projections or engagements on the body or the washer, respectively which engage within holes or recesses in the washer or the body, respectively.

  • Patent number: 4586113
Abstract: An illuminating device for a wheeled vehicle, such as a bicycle, comprising a light housing and a battery case pivotally secured to one another by means including a pair of branched arm portions so that vertical angle of the position of said light housing can be adjusted. Metallic terminals for positive and negative current are provided in a battery case to press and hold batteries therein and the respective ends thereof extend from the battery case along the inner sides of the arm portions. Metallic terminals for positive and negative current in the light housing extend to a base portion of the light housing in through holes in the base portion. An electrical connection is made between the respective terminals in the light housing and the battery case by means of a pair of washers, each having a projection thereon fixed between the inner sides of the arm portions and the outer sides of the base portion.

  • Patent number: 4583153
Abstract: A lamp comprising a concave mirror; a light source located at the focus of said concave mirror; a lens means provided in front of said concave mirror and said light source comprising a central portion for allowing light from said light source to pass directly outward therethrough, and a peripheral portion around said central portion for providing directivity with the light reflected from said concave mirror by allowing the light to pass outward therethrough. The improvement comprises an annular reflector provided on the peripheral portion of the central part inside said lens means for reflecting light emitted from said light source toward said peripheral portion of said lens means back towards said concave mirror past said light source. Light reaching the concave mirror from the annular reflector and light reaching the concave mirror directly from the light source are directed toward the lens in directions parallel to the axis of the light source, thereby providing enhanced illumination by the lamp.

  • Patent number: 4575789
Abstract: A reflex reflector (11) has a reflector body (12), and attaching means (13) which are provided on the right and left sides of the reflector body (12), and is adapted to be attached between spokes (5) of a spoked wheel. Each of the attaching means (13) includes a passage (14) for fitting a spoke (5) therein laterally of the wheel, and the passage (14) has lateral surfaces positioned laterally of the fitted spoke and back surfaces positioned at the back. The attaching means (13) further includes lateral projections (18, 19) projecting to the lateral surfaces of the passage (14) and adapted to make the width of the passage (14) smaller than the diameter of the spoke (5). The lateral projections (18, 19) have elasticity which allows the amount of projection from the lateral surfaces of the passage to be decreased, whereby the spoke (5) is allowed to move beyond the lateral projections (18, 19) to reach a predetermined position.
