Patent number: 6722174Abstract: According to an apparatus and a method for manufacturing a hot-rolled steel plate, a roughing process for reducing a thickness of a continuously cast slab is performed to obtain a sheet bar, and a finishing rolling process for rolling the sheet bar is effected to produce a hot-rolled steel plate having a predetermined plate thickness. After cooling down, the hot-rolled steel plate is then wound. A pair of dies 6 each of which has a tapered portion 6b on an input side and a parallel portion 6b on an output side are used in at least part of the roughing process. Further, before performing plate thickness pressing to a material in a plate thickness direction by using the dies 6, at least one of a front end and a rear end of the material is pressed in a widthwise direction to be pre-formed.Type: GrantFiled: February 26, 2001Date of Patent: April 20, 2004Assignees: NKK Corporation, Ishikawajima-Harima Heavy Industries Co., Ltd.Inventors: Takashi Nishii, Masao Mikami, Hajime Ishii, Kenichi Ide, Toshio Iwanami, Shirou Osada, Satoshi Murata, Sadakazu Masuda

Patent number: 5990464Abstract: A method and hot rolling apparatus for producing a hot rolled steel sheet include a roughing rolling mill to roughing roll a heated slab into a sheet bar, at least one solenoid-type induction heater arranged for re-heating the sheet bar over its entire width, and a finish rolling mill arranged to finish roll the re-heated sheet bar into a hot rolled steel sheet having a predetermined thickness. An initial temperature before rolling is set to be low, and re-heating of the sheet bar is carried out around the middle of the hot rolling apparatus. The thermal energy required for rolling is thereby reduced as a whole without damaging the quality of the resulting hot rolled steel sheet. A descaling apparatus is provided prior to the finish rolling mill to remove oxide scales on surfaces of the sheet bar, whereby the resulting hot rolled steel sheet is free of scale flaws and exhibits superior surface properties.Type: GrantFiled: October 27, 1997Date of Patent: November 23, 1999Assignee: NKK CorporationInventors: Yoshimichi Hino, Toru Minote, Sadakazu Masuda, Masaaki Yamamoto, Hisatomo Eda, Takumasa Terauchi

Patent number: 4986341Abstract: The present invention relates to a process for making non-oriented high Si steel sheet without problems during the sequence from the step of making molten steel to the step of rolling to final sheet thickness. An ingot (or a continuously cast piece) of high Si steel (containing 4.0 to 7.0% Si and specified with Al, Mn, C and P) is subjected to slabbing-hot rolling (or else directly slab rolling-hot rolling) and subsequently the hot rolled steel is reduced to thin thickness. The steel material is maintained at temperature of more than a determined temperature from the step of making molten steel to the step of hot rolling. In the step of hot rolling, information regarding finish rolling conditions and coiling conditions is used to provide structure suitable for the subsequent thin rolling. The hot rolled steel is then warm-rolled to the required thickness.Type: GrantFiled: December 15, 1988Date of Patent: January 22, 1991Assignee: Nippon Kokan Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Sadakazu Masuda, Fumio Fujita, Masamoto Kamata, Masahiko Yoshini, Takashi Ariizumi, Yuji Okami, Yoshikazu Takada, Junichi Inagaki
