  • Patent number: 5505010
Abstract: Ventilation of shoes is efficiently performed by converting an ambulatory movement of the pumping moment of a ventilator in order to eliminate stuffiness and odor in the shoes. The ventilator is comprised of an air groove having a plurality of ventilating holes on the shoe sole, a pump provided inside the heel which returns to the original shape by releasing the stepping in the ambulatory movement, a first unidirectional valve connected between the air groove and the pump which opens/closes the valve by the pressure of the pump, and a second unidirectional valve for ventilating the air.

  • Patent number: 4468869
Abstract: Disclosed is an article of footwear such as a shoe having an inner sole and outer sole which delimit a vacant space of a predetermined height between them, the inner sole having a plurality of ventilating holes for communicating the vacant space with the interior of the shoe. A cushion member made of a light-weight, resilient material is disposed within the vacant space at the forward part of the shoe and has a plurality of elongated ribs spaced apart by a predetermined distance and extending to the rear portion of the vacant space. Each elongated rib has at least one recessed portion passing through the rib substantially laterally thereof to communicate with the spaces on either side of the rib. Compression and relaxation of the cushion member with the application and removal of the wearer's weight during walking creates a circulatory air flow to ventilate the interior of the article of footwear.

  • Patent number: 4417407
Abstract: An article of footwear such as a shoe includes a deformable inner sole, an outer sole, as well as a resilient pumping member and resilient supporting member disposed in a hollow portion defined between the inner and outer soles. The pumping member, comprising a hollow body, is penetrated by a plurality of air-intake holes for communicating the pump interior with the hollow portion, and is provided with a tube communicating with the rear of the shoe, and the inner sole has ventilating holes for communicating the hollow portion with the interior of the shoe. The application and removal of the wearer's weight with each step repeatedly deforms the inner sole which in turn causes an exchange of air between the hollow portion and the shoe interior through the ventilating holes, as well as the compression and relaxation of the pump member to expel air, drawn into the pump member from the hollow portion through the air-intake holes, toward the rear of the shoe.

  • Patent number: 4364186
Abstract: A ventilated article of footwear, such as a shoe, is provided with an outer sole of deformable material having a raised peripheral portion of enlarged thickness surrounding the entire periphery thereof. An inner sole of non-deformable material is mounted above the outer sole in normally spaced relation therefrom to define an air chamber between the soles. The inner sole is perforated with a plurality of apertures providing communication between the air chamber and the interior of the shoe. A compressible supporting material is located in the air chamber between the inner and outer soles and normally biases the deformable outer sole away from the inner sole to provide a relatively deep air chamber. When the wearer of the shoe applies his weight upon the outer sole, the latter deforms upwardly compressing the compressible supporting material and reducing the depth of the air chamber.

  • Patent number: 4111464
Abstract: A female pipe joint end 3 has a circular groove 11 and a rectangular circular groove 9 in its expanded inner periphery, and a mating male pipe joint end 6 has a tapered insertion edge 5 and a circular groove 7 in its outer periphery. The side wall of the groove 7 nearest the pipe end is perpendicular to the pipe axis; the opposite side wall is tapered. A packing seal 10 is disposed in the groove 11, and a continuous, relatively rigid locking ring 4 of synthetic resin is disposed in the groove 9 and snap fitted into the groove 7 during assembly. The ring 4 may have a bevelled lip 13, stepped inner and outer peripheries 15, 16, 17, or axial grooves 14 or holes 14' therethrough.

  • Patent number: 4071963
Abstract: Ventilated footwear comprises an outer sole having a hollow portion forming an air pumping chamber at its heel portion, a plurality of ventilation holes provided on an inner sole within the range of the air pumping chamber, a cushioning material having cells therein to contain air being spread over an upper surface of the inner sole on the heel part thereof, projections projecting from the outer sole forming cavities between the outer sole and the inner sole, the cavities functioning as an air chamber, a plurality of ventilation holes provided on the inner sole and ducts longitudinally provided between the inner sole and the outer sole so as to communicate the air pumping chamber and the cavities.
