Abstract: A pharmaceutical composition comprising two components:

Abstract: The present invention pertains to a dual control sustained release drug delivery system which comprises a core and a porous coating layer over the core, wherein the coated core comprises (A) a core comprising in percentages by weight of the core composition (a) a medicament present in an amount from about 60% to about 90%; (b) an edible material having a melting point from about 25.degree. C. to about 100.degree. C. selected from the group consisting of (i) fatty acids having an iodine value from about 1 to about 10, (ii) natural waxes, (iii) synthetic waxes, and (iv) mixtures thereof, present in an amount from about 5% to about 40%; and (B) a porous coating layer over the core comprising in percentages by weight of the coating layer composition (a) a pH-independent water-insoluble polymer present in an amount from about 40% to about 80%; and (b) a water-soluble film forming polymer present in an amount from about 20% to about 60%.

Abstract: A disintegratable formulation of gemfibrozil providing both immediate and sustained release and comprises a tablet compressed from a mixture of a first and second granulation, and a disintegration excipient operable to effect partial or complete disintegration in the stomach. The first granulation comprises finely divided particles of pure gemfibrozil granulated with at least one cellulose derivative and the second granulation comprises finely divided particles of pure gemfibrozil granulated with a pharmaceutically acceptable water soluble or insoluble polymer which are then uniformly coated with a pharmaceutically acceptable (meth)acrylate copolymer prior to admixture with the first granulation. The first and second granulations are present in the final composition in a ratio of from about 10:1 to about 1:10.

Abstract: A new drug delivery system, which gives sustained release properties is made by combining certain cellulosic polymers with cellulose in a binder system.

Abstract: Drug delivery systems which exhibit sustained release properties when administered are produced using a "dual control" system which employs polymeric agents in core and membrane portions.

Abstract: A unique sustained release dosage form which prevents the tendency of an initial surge of medicament in the first hour of administration. The control is by a porous membrane coating. The amount of initial release can be varied by varying the proportions of the components of the coatings.

Abstract: A chewable anticonvulsant tablet dosage form consisting essentially of calcium valproate and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier is disclosed. This novel dosage form is conveniently administered and is not irritating to the mucosa of the mouth and throat.
