  • Patent number: 4313528
Abstract: A water preventing structure of a drum-in-disc brake having a brake drum and a disc rotor extending from the outer periphery thereof. A friction surface of the disc rotor and an opening of the brake drum are respectively covered by a dust cover and a backing plate. A water carrying plate is attached to the inside surface of the dust cover for forming an upwardly open water carrying groove in co-operation with the latter. The inside surface of the inner brim of the dust cover is fixed to the outside surface of the outer brim of the backing plate, leaving a part thereof separated therefrom for forming a drainage passage at a place right beneath the water carrying plate.

  • Patent number: 4291786
Abstract: A balancing piece fixedly received within a tapered opening of cooling vents radially disposed in a ventilated brake disc for the purpose of improving rotational balance of the ventilated disc. The balancing piece includes, as integral parts thereof, a wide portion at a wide end thereof, at least one tab portion formed adjacent to the wide portion and protruding at an acute angle relative to the wide end portion, and a locking portion at a narrow end thereof.

  • Patent number: 4203628
Abstract: A proportioning valve for a hydraulic brake system having a capability of preventing brake vibration. In this proportioning valve a piston, which is exposed at one end thereof to an air chamber and constantly biased with a spring in a separating direction away from the air chamber, opens and closes a cut valve disposed in a braking fluid circuit from the master cylinder to the rear wheel cylinder(s) for performing fluid pressure regulating operation. The piston is further designed such that the stroke thereof is larger than it ought to be for the proper object, with the purpose of operating as a piston for absorbing fluid pressure vibration in the rear wheel cylinder(s) while the braking fluid pressure is relatively low, and as an ordinary fluid pressure regulating piston after the braking fluid pressure exceeds a predetermined set value.

  • Patent number: 4188073
Abstract: An anti-vibration apparatus for an automotive hydraulic braking system for preventing the brake vibration by means of imparting the function of absorbing the pulsation of the hydraulic braking fluid pressure to any one structural member of the braking system, which is disposed in the hydraulic, braking fluid circuit, with respective proper object, such as a three-way joint, a pressure control valve, a wheel cylinder, etc. This apparatus is constructed in communication with the fluid passage within the respective structural member and comprises a cylinder formed integrally with the structural member body, a plunger slidably and fluid-tightly fitted in the cylinder, one end thereof being under the pressure of the hydraulic braking fluid and the other end thereof being faced to an air chamber, a stopper for restricting the axial sliding of the plunger within a limited range, and a spring for constantly biasing the plunger against the hydraulic braking fluid pressure.

  • Patent number: 4178756
Abstract: A vacuum union having a tubular body adapted for transmitting a vacuum signal from an intake pipe of an internal combustion engine of a vehicle to a vacuum-operated brake booster of a vehicle brake device, and a branch pipe adapted for transmitting a vacuum signal from the tubular body to other vacuum-operated engine controlling devices. An orifice for restricting the level of the vacuum signal, to be transmitted to the brake booster, is located downstream of a branch pipe with respect to the intake pipe. Therefore, a drop in the vacuum level is effectively decreased for maintaining the proper operation of the brake device, even if the controlling devices are damaged, thereby causing the branch pipe to be opened to the atmosphere.

  • Patent number: 4155601
Abstract: A disc brake device for use in a vehicle which comprises a disc rotor having annular disc brake surfaces, a wheel hub for supporting the disc rotor and being rotatably supported by a wheel axle via bearings, a stationary dust cover for covering both an outer surface of the disc rotor and an end surface of the wheel hub, and a mud-guard cover which is fixed to the dust cover and which has a peripheral edge portion extending to a position adjacent to the surface of the disc rotor. This disc brake device can prevent muddy water from entering into the inside thereof, thereby preventing the lips of a seal and one of the bearings mounted in the device from being damaged by external muddy water. In addition, the lubricating oil for the bearing can be prevented from degradation by such muddy water.

  • Patent number: 4016533
Abstract: A device for warning of the occurrence of excessive wear on the brake lining of a brake for a vehicle, in which a detecting element for detecting an increase in the amount of wear on the lining from a predetermined value is mounted on a rear plate supporting the lining, a part of the detecting element projects from the rear plate to the outside of the brake, and a metallic cylindrical cover is fixed to the rear plate so as to cover said projecting part of the detecting element, thereby preventing foreign material from contacting the detecting element when the vehicle is in operation.

  • Patent number: 3986164
Abstract: A warning mechanism for detecting brake shoe wear is adapted to be fitted into a recess formed on the rear face of a brake shoe such that when the front face of the shoe, which undergoes frictional engagement during braking, is worn to a sufficient extent, a defaceable detection wire in the warning mechanism will be ruptured to provide an indication of depletion of the braking material of the shoe. The detector element is removably secured within the recess of the brake shoe and is located such that it will not be dislodged by a braking force applied to the brake shoe by a piston of the brake assembly but will, instead, be held in position thereby.
