  • Patent number: 4679611
Abstract: A belt type continuous casting machine having a container for accommodating molten steel therein, a nozzle for supplying the molten steel from the container, a belt mold having a pair of metal belts and a pair of side members, and a cooling pad positioned adjacent to the back surface of the metal belt for forming a gap acting as a water film portion therebetween. The cooling pad is provided with a plurality of inlet ports and outlet ports for enabling a flow of cooling water into the water film portion therethrough. The diameters of these ports and the vertical distance between the inlet port and the adjacent outlet port are varied for controlling fluid pressure in the water film portion in correspondence with an external load acting on the metal belt. By securing a desired water film thickness deformation of the belt mold is prevented, and a flat cast slab with a good surface is obtained.

  • Patent number: 4613113
Abstract: Disclosed herein is an apparatus for blowing a powdery refining agent into a refining vessel which is adapted to blow the powder into a molten metal bath of the refining vessel together with a refining gas by feeding the powder from a pressure vessel to a main pipe for the supply of the refining gas. The pressure vessel is connected to the main pipe through a plurality of transportation pipes each provided with an on-off valve and connected to a secondary gas pipe for introduction of the refining gas downstream of the on-off valve. The secondary gas pipe is provided with a flow control valve.

  • Patent number: 4582114
Abstract: A continuous casting apparatus for the production of cast sheets having a casting space defined by a pair of opposed endless belts and a pair of side plates arranged near the side edge portions of the belts while being brought into intimate contact therewith and designed to be converged toward a drawing direction. In this apparatus, a filmy water flow-forming pad arranged behind each of the belts, and each of the side plates are so profiled that the casting space inclusive of the tapered portion depicts a smooth curve at at least a transition area from the taper end portion to a constant thickness portion.

  • Patent number: 4398699
Abstract: This invention relates to a device for removing fused slags on slabs wherein <-shaped cutters with the front center thereof being the apex are disposed on the front and rear positions of a tool rest being vertically movable with a required spacing and being close to the undersurface of the slab, respectively. At least the rear cutter is biased upwardly by a spring mounted in the lower portion of the tool rest. At the same time the shear point in the rear cutter is made to be somewhat higher than that of the front cutter in order to cut out the fused slags deposited on the undersurface of the slab on a transferring roller table with a prescribed length. If it is arranged in such a way that a water-cooling means for water-cooling the deposited portion of the fused dross is disposed before and behind the above device for removing fused slags on slabs, respectively, to cut off the cured dross, the fused slags can more effectively be removed.

  • Patent number: 4395023
Abstract: This invention relates to a shroud for a steel making electric-arc furnace which surrounds the electric-arc furnace main body for sound- and dust-proofing, having doors provided in the side wall of the shroud to permit the scrap bucket to move in and out of the shroud and an opening of a minimum width in the suction port of a dust collecting suction duct on the top wall to permit transverse movement of the bucket lifting means to the center of the electric-arc furnace main body.

  • Patent number: 4390167
Abstract: Apparatus for removing a torch-cutting slag of a slab, wherein a cutting tool mount vertically and rotatably controllable is transversely racked beneath a conveying roller table for conveying the slab fusion-cut to a predetermined length in a direction perpendicular to the conveying roller table, and cutting tools for cutting the torch-cutting slag of the slab are provided at least at positions symmetrical with each other along the longitudinal outer surfaces of the cutting tool mount. The cutting tools for cutting the torch-cutting slag are constituted by a plurality of cutting tools arranged in succession from the center of the forward portion, i.e., the input side, to opposite sides of the rear portion of the cutting tool mount, the cutting tools are gradually increased in the level of projection from the forward portion to the rear portion on the cutting tool mount and are resiliently supported on the cutting tool mount through springs.

  • Patent number: 4379002
Abstract: In the process of conveying a slab from continuous casting or large ingot casting equipment by means of a conveyance table comprising conveyance rollers, the slab is stopped on the table and raised therefrom and, at the raised position, the slab is divided lengthwise thereof by gas cutting into at least two. The divided slabs are individually transferred to the downstream, where slags formed on the lower end edge of the cut surface of each divided slab are continuously removed.
