Abstract: A practically non-aqueous dental cement composition is disclosed and the dental cement composition comprises a polymer or co-polymer having an .alpha.,.beta.-unsaturated carboxylic acid as an essential component of a main monomer; and an inorganic powder capable of forming a metal chelate in the presence of water characterized in that the polymer or co-polymer exists as a solution in a polymerizable monomer that can dissolve the polymer or co-polymer. This provides a dental composition which has not only the advantages of the conventional glass ionomer cement but also a higher setting rate and more desirable physical properties of the setting product and is excellent also in durability, by eliminating the disadvantages in the setting rate and physical properties of the set cement.

Abstract: Medical or dental hardening compositions of the present invention comprise calcium phosphate type devitrification glass-ceramics powder containing apatite and/or calcium phosphate ceramics and a liquid component. The second medical or dental hardening compositions of the present invention comprise strontium phosphate type devitrification glass-ceramics powder containing strontium-apatite crystals and/or calcium strontium phosphate ceramics, or calcium strontium phosphate type devitrification glass-ceramics powder and a liquid component.

Abstract: Compositions capable of evaluating dental caries activity by making use of color reaction, which are composed of an aqueous solution containing coloring agents and water-soluble substances that are to produce an osmotic pressure higher than the physiological one on the cell membrane of cariogenic bacteria but free from any buffer action by themselves. Upon introducing dental plaque of a dental caries patient into this solution and thus measuring activity of the sordes by means of color reaction, it is possible to evaluate readily the status praesens of dental caries and its activity without any cultivation of cariogenic bacteria being required.
