  • Publication number: 20180057067
Abstract: A vehicle B-pillar assembly is provided. The vehicle B-pillar assembly includes a T-bracket, a B-pillar inner, a B-pillar reinforcement, a cell member, and a B-pillar outer. The T-bracket is mounted to a roof rail. The B-pillar inner is mounted to the T-bracket. The B-pillar reinforcement is mounted to the B-pillar inner and defines a cavity. The cell member is sized for insertion within the cavity and for securing therein. The cell member is oriented with the T-bracket for partially absorbing a load from a side impact to the B-pillar assembly. The B-pillar outer spans between the roof rail and a rocker panel. The cell member may extend within the cavity between a location above a vehicle beltline and a location below the vehicle beltline.

  • Publication number: 20180001802
Abstract: A seating assembly for a vehicle includes a base. A seatback having a lower portion is rotatably coupled to the base and an upper portion is pivotably coupled to the lower portion by at least one pivot joint. The at least one pivot joint is disposed on a front portion of the seatback. A guide bracket is disposed on a rear portion of the seatback and is configured to guide the upper portion of the seatback between a resting position and a deployed position. A resilient member provides a resistance to pivoting of the upper portion of the seatback and the resilient member is operably coupled to the upper portion of the seatback and the lower portion of the seatback. The upper portion of the seatback pivots from the resting position to the deployed position during a frontal collision of the vehicle.

  • Patent number: 9840282
Abstract: A collision countermeasure apparatus includes an impact absorbing body attached to an outboard side of a sub-frame and a rigid link. The rigid link is attached to the impact absorbing body at an outboard location and extends upward to an outer side of a frame rail. A frontal impact with a rigid barrier outboard of the frame rail drives the impact absorbing body into the link to force the link into the outer side of the frame rail. The force applied to the frame rail by the impact absorbing body laterally displaces the vehicle to reduce the extent of intrusion into the passenger compartment of the vehicle.

  • Publication number: 20170341625
Abstract: A retractor includes a spool, a torsion bar and a torsion tube rotationally fixed to the spool, and a locking member aligned with the torsion bar. The torsion bar and the torsion tube extend coaxially from the spool to respective first ends, and the torsion bar has a key. The locking member is movable from an unlocked position rotationally disengaged with the torsion bar to a locked position wherein the key rotationally fixes the locking member to the first end of the torsion bar. When the locking member is in the unlocked position, the torsion bar may be plastically deformed to limit the load applied by webbing against an occupant. If sufficient force is applied to the webbing, the locking member moves to the locked position in which both torsion bar and the torsion tube are locked together and, in tandem, limit the load applied by the webbing.

  • Publication number: 20170291642
Abstract: A collision countermeasure apparatus for a vehicle includes a longitudinally extending frame rail that defines a transverse opening adjacent a front end. An extension is partially received in a bumper that defines an open end. A pin is received in the transverse opening and has an outer end pivotally connected by a joint to an outboard end of the extension. Collisions outboard of the frame rail drive the extension into the pin and the pin into the rail to laterally displace the vehicle. Collisions inboard of the rail slide the extension outwardly from the bumper and pivot the extension and pin toward each other. Collisions inboard of the rail shift the pin laterally outwardly from the transverse opening.

  • Patent number: 9738306
Abstract: A steering column assembly for a vehicle includes a housing defining a bore that extends along an axis. The steering column assembly includes a first shaft disposed in the bore and a second shaft telescopically engaged with the first shaft. The second shaft is movable along the axis relative to the housing. A wedge is fixed to the second shaft and is spaced from the housing. During frontal impact of the vehicle, an occupant may impact the steering column assembly. Relative telescopic retraction of the first shaft and the second shaft provides a first stage of energy absorption. As the first shaft and the second shaft telescopically retract, the wedge contacts the housing and deforms the housing in a second stage of energy absorption.
