  • Patent number: 11525429
Abstract: Systems and methods for harnessing hydro-kinetic energy. The system includes a single central axle, a plurality of vanes, and a generator. The plurality of vanes may be configured to rotate about the central axle. Each vane may include a frame and a panel rotatably attached the frame. The panel may comprise a plurality of channels having a C-shaped cross-section. Movement of surrounding water may cause the panel to rotate relative to the frame between an open and closed position. The generator may be configured to convert the rotational motion of the plurality of vanes into electrical energy.

  • Publication number: 20190242361
Abstract: Apparatus and method derive useful energy from kinetic energy of a fluid, such as air or water, flowing in an existing direction of flow. A rotor carries impeller blade assemblies in circumferentially spaced apart positions about an axis of rotation. Vanes are carried by the impeller blade assemblies for unrestricted free pivotal movement between stops that establish a first position wherein a vane is oriented for being driven by the flow of fluid to rotate the rotor in a desired direction of rotation, and a second position wherein the vane is precluded from an orientation in which the flow of fluid could establish a force tending to retard rotation of the rotor in the desired direction, thus facilitating rotation of the rotor in the desired direction of rotation, independent of the direction of flow of the air or water, while the apparatus remains immersed in a single selected orientation within the flowing fluid.

  • Patent number: 10077943
Abstract: A booster unit and method increase the performance of an air source heat pump system at low ambient air temperatures, the air source heat pump system including a conduit system for forwarding a refrigerant through an external circuit exposed to ambient air. A tubular system is immersed in a liquid heat exchange medium, such as water or antifreeze, within a booster chamber having chamber walls exposure to ambient air. An internal circuit of the tubular system receives refrigerant from the conduit system for advancement through the tubular system and delivery back to the conduit system so that heat passing from ambient air through the chamber walls and into the liquid heat exchange medium in the booster chamber is transferred from the liquid heat exchange medium to the refrigerant in the tubular system, to increase the temperature of the refrigerant being delivered from the tubular system and forwarded to the external circuit, thereby reducing or eliminating frosting at the external circuit.

  • Patent number: 10030897
Abstract: A heat equilibration system and method transfer heat between ambient air and a liquid heat exchange medium. Conduits have plate-like walls spaced apart by a small distance to contain a thin, film-like stream of liquid heat exchange medium and the conduits are spaced apart from one another to establish a path for exposure of the walls to ambient air. Liquid heat exchange medium is passed through each conduit, flowing in a thin, film-like stream to transfer heat between the ambient air and the liquid heat exchange medium. In one embodiment, the liquid heat exchange medium is water, circulated through a heat equilibration system and a water source heat pump.

  • Patent number: 9933187
Abstract: Apparatus and method transfer heat between a geothermal mass and a geothermal heat exchange unit embedded within the geothermal mass, utilizing a geothermal heat exchange system comprised of the heat exchange unit. The unit includes a chamber enclosed by plate-like walls presenting a very large heat transfer area. The walls are spaced apart by a small distance compared to the heat transfer area, configuring the chamber to contain a thin, film-like volume of a liquid heat exchange medium. The heat exchange medium is flowed into and out of the chamber at a prescribed rate of flow, and the capacity of the chamber is such that the volume of heat exchange medium contained within the chamber during operation of the geothermal heat exchange system is great enough to enable the flowing heat exchange medium to mix with static, dwelled heat exchange medium maintained within the chamber as heat exchange medium flows through the chamber at the prescribed rate of flow and is circulated in the system.
